...and Oliver Perez goes 0.2 innings to give up 6 earned runs, only to be taken out in the middle of an at bat where he was behind 3-0 to Pedro Martinez.

Who are they compared to at this point? Oakland Raiders? LA Clippers? Any better analogies?

Pittsburgh Pirates maybe? No, wait, the Pirates are playing better.

Oh yeah, I should add that Minaya thought it was a good idea to re-sign Perez to a 3-year, $36 million deal in the off season. Here are his 2009 numbers since that contract:

3-3, 6.82 ERA, 58 walks in 66 IP, and one of the worst WHIPS I have ever seen, an astounding 1.92

Has this guy been successful anywhere? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I really don't know. I do know he traded Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon when MLB put him in charge of the Expos. How does he keep a job?

He is simply doing the bidding of the Wilpon's. They are the ones that are actually in charge. Minaya just does as he is told.

Just great. The Wilpons wonder why they don't sell tickets. Who wants to pay for this joke? Not me. I will attend one game this year just to see Citifield. Until they shake this organization up, they will not see anymore of my money.

Say what you want, but the writing is on the wall. Minaya is a racist. He wants all Latin teams. Not that latin players aren't good/great. But when you sell the farm to get what you want based soley on race? This guy should have been collecting unemployment years ago.

Honestly he has to go. If you are sitting there thinking thinking he has no input on these decisions, or think he has just a little input on these decisions, that is completely wrong. That is his job. General Manager of the Team. If the team fails, he fails, so I doubt hs just sits there taking orders he does not agree with, only to fail, and be fired.

Think about it, its like your boss tells you to do it, you do it, it doesn't work, and he fires you for making bad decisions...that makes no sense. And keeping Omar around makes even less sense.

Bye OMAR your horrible !!!!

I was thinking this earlier today...

I think the last time I was really excited about the Mets was when Robin Ventura hit the grand slam single in game 5 of the 1999 NLCS, forcing a game 6 after being down to the Braves 3-0 in the series.

Even in 2000 when they went to the World Series, I knew that our fortunes hung on the success of Armando Benitez. When he blew the save in Game 1 of the WS, I knew it was over. Actually, I knew it was over when Paul O'Neill (who scored the tying run) kept fouling off pitches before finally drawing a one out walk off Benitez.

And if that unassisted, game-ending triple play isn't a microcosm of the Mets season, I don't know what is...

That's just the exclamation point on the season. The microcosm was the August 4th game:

Johan Santana on the mound vs the Cardinals and a 7-4 lead in the 8th inning. Pujols leads off the 8th with a Home Run, reducing the lead to two runs. K-Rod comes in to close the 9th, only to allow two runs with only one out. He gets out of the inning with the score tied, and it goes to extras. In the top of the 11th, Sean Green comes in with the bases loaded and 2 outs, and proceeds to hit DeRosa with THE FIRST PITCH, forcing in a run, and bringing Pujols to the plate. Pujols promptly jacks an 0-2 pitch to left center for his 5th grand slam of the season, and the Mets lose by 5 runs.

No need to recap - I saw it live ::facepalm::

I think the Luis Castillo dropped fly ball against the Yankees takes the cake. Everytime I think there's a definite low point to this season, something else unthinkable happens.

Can't help but think that Castillo dropped ball was the straw that broke the camels back. Straight downhill from there on out.

John, Omar needs to go!!!! Hopefully we get rid of him next year, and then maybe we can deal OP for hopefully 15 maple baseball bats, but some teams are only offering 10 bats for him. I would take 10 bats for him, those break easily and they cost a decent penny

Agreed. Omar will not be going anywhere. He is the perfect Wilpons puppet. However, he has no morals and should stand up for himself at some point in time. But, I guess I shouldn't expect that much from a guy that barely has a grasp of the English language.

The front office has become a real disgrace.
