This is why I'm scared to see what a Tony Clark red will fetch. Sure, he's not a hot player and all but still, someone with the card will prob post it now hoping to get a good price.

I bought this about 2 weeks before the MANNY news broke.... I had hopes for a non-steroid user to break the bonds HR record...he really busted my bubble!

The Manny used to be mine, and the Ortiz is one of the biggest cards on earth to make me jealous.

Is this a game, or do you actually own that?

Can you not see the white around the "K"? It's a cut out put on the card :)

I never said I was good at forgery... :o

I also did it in a few other ink colors..

Good luck with that.
Let us know how that goes.

I know I'd be interested in any of the Ripken inserts out of the 5 cases you bust... ;)

I know at one point people were asking me to track down supply of the 98 Donruss and bust em.

I said, and still believe, that if people all wanna chip in for the product I will work my mojo and we can all split the funds. You folks know my luck...you know its real.

Doubt the 5 cases you'd bust to pull in that sweet Green Konerko would be worth it.
Good luck though man.

I've been crazy with a few other Griffey cards. I never expected the red crusade to go so high though. I wanted to take a shot at it but my bid wouldn't have mattered.

Maybe this could spur someNEW interest in inserts! I know I just started getting into them less than a month ago. I didn't even know there was much interest in them, until I saw it seemed to be such a popular thread here.

There has always been interest in inserts, most people just are not aware of how much. This price and these rare cards are not a recent phase of collecting. A card with a print run even to 100 from the 90s is harder to find than those made in recent years that are far fewer printed. Cards like this are a clash between player and set collectors.

This always was a popular set, fairly unusual for prices to be so high because its an insert and not parallel set. Usually the parallels are more popular/expensive in general.

I didn't bid but I can tell by the bid history that the second place guy, who put in tons of bids here, has been trying to put together a master set for a decade - but has been often blocked by other collectors trying to corner the market on the set. I can't see who the winner was though.

I had a hunch it would crack $1500, but I never thought it would go that high. Highest sale ever for a red crusade? I don't even think the red Nomo 1/25 hit $2k that sold a few months/year ago ???

EDIT: The A-Rod Purple prototype sale was nothing to sneeze at either

There has only been two Bagwell cards I have ever seen that have been out of my price range. One was a logoman and the other was the Red Crusade. Both were BIN's for $995.00.I just can't justify paying that much for a Bagwell. Not only are there still too many I need but paying that much for a card that is not a vintage card of a Hall of Famer is crazy to me.Maybe one day I will try it but I wouldn't do it any time soon.

Griffey on the other hand...well like I said...its why I don't try to player collect him like I do with other players.Sure I keep anything of his I can get but I'd never be able to fully go after his stuff.

As for seeing more inserts out of the 90's at the national...you may start noticing more and more of these types of cards at shows because I think eventually the dealers and shop owners are going to wake up and see that these things are starting to heat up.Its a nice change of pace and oddly enough a lot of collectors like going back and finding them and the newer collectors don't normally mind them that much either.

Yeah, there's definitely a cycle to collecting. Not only because people remember some good old stuff, but because it keeps the hobby fresh. It also gives dealers the chance to sell some of the stuff they've purchased/accumulated the last couple years. So one year it may be prospects, then vintage, then...something else.

Yep.At least that's what I have heard anyway. And we all know GU and autos are becoming a little boring. Not for me but I am sure for a lot of people ...well, they have had their fill and its time to move on.
