Only the first 75 were refractors. At least... for the most part. <g> The remaining 425 were base chrome.

I say for the most part because I recently obtained an example from within the seventy-five issue limit and it doesn't have the refractor coat. <shrug> ;-D

Re: OMG-I bid four times book and still LOST! (duplicate ignore)

Just goes to show that Beckett still remains very, very off when it comes to numbered, star inserts from the '90's.

Well, besides the ONE crazier person than me, the next closest person was almost $100 less...it only takes two, and of course beckett isnt going to change pricing just based on 2 crazy people...for the most part, I am finding the inserts are selling for much less than book....I JUST WANTED THIS ONE, and shocked someone outbid me.

Holy smokes! :o

That is INSANE. I still can't quite understand, even coming from a player collector's point-of-view, how a buyer justifies that outlay of dollars for an insert run of 75. That is freakin' nuts! More so in this economy. Wow. I'm stunned.

Wish I had an extra or two, Griff I mean. <g>

Hey Ross, I'm glad we're posting on this thread - saves me time from hunting and pecking. <g>

It turns out that I was mistaken and not mistaken. (more mistaken, with a caveat)

Mistaken that I referenced 'The Man' Refractors - when I should have been more clear and said 'Centurion' Refractors. Sort of the why-is-one-twin-sister-hotter-than-the-other syndrome. Both were issued in Finest, both issued to 500 with the first 75 being refractors, both inserted at identical insert ratios, but when it comes to prices The Man always outpaces Centurion. Go figure.

Anyway, I located an example of a Centurion stamped under 75 with no refractor coating. ;)

I just liked "The Man" theme....Griffey really is "the man" of the century...with all the steroids users, it just makes him shine even more.
I don't think anyone else is "the man" of the last 20 years. The card says it all....besides the fact it has "pretty colors"...figured it would be my cornerstone of my inserts cards (even placing more credit on it than a 1993 finest or my manny crusade red)...oh well...The Manny Red Crusade will have to remain my insert cornerstone for now.

I really was hoping to win it for $150 though, and was flat out amazed that I was outbid...
