I have seen a few guys say how much they hate manufactured patches, and as a player collector, I don't really care! If it's Gwynn, I want it!

That being said, I LOVE these hat patches! Just a cool idea, and I was so happy to see Gwynn had three for three different hats he wore! A little Gwynn/Padres nostalgia! I felt I got a pretty good deal for them, so I couldn't wait the prices to go down, which usually happens!

Nice. I was thinking about going for all 3 too. It's funny how some people think they are really cut from game used hats and bit them up so high.

I like some manupatches (thanks to whoever came up with that term), like 2004 Sweet Spot Classics. used right, they make a nice design element for a theme set.

I'm amazed, though, that these and the others from 2010 Topps keep selling so strongly. Some poor shmoe bid $355 for an Ichiro. Surely he must've thought it was GU. But Ichiros, Ruths, Mantles, Pujols, etc., routinely crack $50, and many other are $20 or more.

That's cool they actually put a picture of him wearing each of those hats too

I noticed and appreciated that as well... and it's cool he got the 3 logos even though he only played for 1 team. Rickey has 4, and they're alright looking, but still haven't dropped below the $20 mark. And the A's patch is horrendously hideous!

It's just so wrong on so many levels. If the patch was real, they could have adjusted the size of the window... but it's manufactured! ::facepalm:: They made a fake patch the wrong size. That's pretty lame.

I'm sure the card was originally intended to be produced horizontal, thus the fabric missing from the top and bottom.

With all due respect.. Fake patches are THE dumbest things to ever happen to baseball cards.

Seriously? What is the difference between a refractor parallel, or a die-cut? It's an alteration that makes the card stand out. I totally disagree with you, especially after seeing rip-girls cards or Scout auto cards...

Nothing. Except for the closing prices (all things being equal). The great thing that Topps has going for them is that a large % of collectors are just as stupid when it comes to collecting as Topps is when it comes to producing collctibles (crap).

Not judging you, but the prices are too high for what they truely are...

Whether others like 'em or not, I actually wish there were some Reynolds ones. I like 'em and have no issues with them.

I find it humorous how people get so bent out of shape on these. Take the fabric out of them, and they're just regular inserts and who cares. But add a piece of fabric and OH MY GOD!! THOSE ARE FAKE AND STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And on top of that, the "prices are too high for what they are", but hundreds of dollars for an unproven rookie parallel are "ok"?? Give me a cool looking insert of a HOFer or player I grew up watching for a fraction of the price, and I'll be happy.

Nope redemptions are the dumbest thing. With the fake patches you at least get the item in the box right away. But with having to way for a card and sometimes the chase card, you run the risk of not get anything all or getting something they concisder equal valve. Not saying fake patch card have any value either.

I agree with Sly, and while some people may not like them, should we really complain about an insert set out of a Topps product that has secondary market value over $1?

I can see why people don't like them since they do confuse people even more. However, they are better than some other crap that has been made in the past. And like has been said they are just another type of insert. I'd never buy one of Granderson like it was real, but if the price was right it's a better looking card than most.

Yeah patches, like cards themselves, are essentially collectible and informative(?) pieces of art. I'd guess that if someone doesn't consider cards 'art' per se, they're not going to like 'manupatches' very much.

The only thing that matters to me is that the cards be *transparent* enough so that people - even average joes and especially *kids* - will be able to easily identify what they have.

Its great that a lot of people enjoy these cards and aren't taking cards in general too seriously like corporate stock. Kudos to Topps for understanding collectibles enough to know that people will enjoy these. Some complain that Topps won't be innovative, but this shows otherwise.

I think they really take away the AWE-factor from real legitimate game used patches. It's a shame, and I don't like them.

What's next, fake bat barrel autographs?

I will regret the day when topps finally produces "real ink facsimile autographs: on-card!" ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::
