The Orioles will sign first round pick Matt Hobgood tomorrow, according to Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun. Schmuck doesn't have the terms of the deal, but they should become available after tomorrow's press conference. Click here to see the bonuses received by some of Hobgood's fellow first-rounders.

Awesome

He was at Camden Yards tonight and has been giving every indication that his signing is just a formality......Fellas, the O's are quietly putting together a pretty solid young team.......

Full Disclosure: Yes I am an O's fan.

Actual quotes from a 2009 Pre-Draft Interview:

Orioles Scouting Director Joe Jordan: "Why should we draft you?"

Matt Hobgood: "Because I hate losing more than I like winning."

I like this kid already :)

:o
Well, Hernandez & Bergesen are already Big League Ready and proven. So I'd definately put them ahead of the High Schooler.
And don't forget about Troy Patton, Tony Butler, & Zach Britton. ;)

Matt Hobgood has a very good curveball with a hard fastball. However, I don't feel he will succeed at the professional level. Mater Dei High School (CA), a team who relies on pitching, scored seven runs off of him. Also, it is not like Hobgood was striking out many. The whole team kept hitting him. I am bringing this up as this is the game I saw of Hobgood.
Although, to back up Matt, he had only given up something like 3 runs the whole season before this game.

Hobgood also gets rattled really easily. If he starts to really get hit, I don't think he will comeback strong. I feel he won't be your guy to count on working out of jams.

In my opinion, I do not think Matt will be a great pitcher in the MLB, or for that matter, even in Triple-A.

You do realize that like 90% of these kids got rattled easily if a team scored more than 3 runs on them in HS, because they're so much better than everyone. And he's what 17-18 and I'm sure he'll mature and get used to actually having people get hits off of him, I'm sure it happened when he played against real competition (Select and Showcases).
