I just had to put my 14 year old Beagle/German Shepard mix to sleep. We rescued her from the pound 12 years ago and her organs started to shut down so there was nothing we could do. Needless to say it wasn't fun but she was in pain and she is better off now. We will bury her in a pet cemetery and she will be wrapped in a Cincinnati Reds blanket.

Really sorry man, I know what you're feeling. Several years ago my golden retriever developed cancer which spread from his paw to his lungs. At a point we did not want him to suffer and had to put him down. Really sorry for your loss.

 VERY SAD to hear this bud! But keep in mind that your little buddy is in a FAR better place & feeling better now (they're probably looking down at you right now feeling sorry for you, as you are the one that is left on earth & having to deal with the trial's & tribulation of everyday life down here...they're floating on cloud 9 eating steak & shrimp & enjoying that choclate cake that they didn't get to have here on earth)!!! I'm very sorry for your loss during this time of the year my friend but know that they are no longer in pain & will always be right there beside you (head on your lap, witha little grin, tongue hanging out) :D Try to give your family a Merry Christmas! (Merry Christmas buddy)

My condolences on your loss, but I want to say that I'm proud and pleased that you made the decision that was in the best interest of the dog. It pains me to see people that keep animals alive despite the animals' being in constant agony. Right now, my wife and her best friend's boyfriend are locked in a nasty argument because he can't see that it's time for his 17 year old, tumor-ridden dog needs to be put down (his vet has been trying to convince him for a year).

Anyway, despite your sadness, you made the right choice, and your dog would have thanked you.

Sorry man... get another is my advice, it will keep your mind off of the loss.

Thanks Guys.

We do have another dog, which is a yellow lab named Wrigley. I feel really bad for her because her and Dutchess were really good buddies,

Very sorry about your loss. Losing a pet is like losing a family member, and to lose them during the holidays is especially tough. You made the right decision, though.

Sorry to hear this - you did the right thing - there's no need to make your pets suffer even more. He's in a better place.
