I can't remember if I told anyone on the boards about this yet, but here goes. Back in August my wife had surgery to remove a benign tumor in her lower right jaw. The kind of tumor was called Ameloblastoma. In order to remove the tumor, they had to remove her entire jaw bone, teeth included all the way from the lower right to the left canine. They had to remove more than the size of the tumor to ensure that they got it all. In it's place they inserted a titanium plate to help hold shape and to provide a place to attach bone later. She was on a soft chew diet from August until now.
Fast forward to last Monday, we were back in the hospital for round 2. This time she had a bone graft from her hip that was placed in her jaw. We left the hospital last Tuesday with my wife using a walker. After about a week she had graduated to a cane. Now, she is just limping around, but overall moving quite well. This time she is on a no chew diet. Basically everything is mushy. I had already planned on taking off 2 weeks to be with her to help out since we have 2 little girls, (9months, & almost 3). But, this past Monday we find out that she will not be able to pick either one of the girls up for at least 6-8 more weeks. They want to make sure that the hip heals properly and that she does not over use the hip, possibly causing her to break her hip. My company gave me 1 week off with pay and then I had to take a week of Vacation this week in order to be with her and the girls. I cannot take any more time away from work after this week for several reasons. One, we really need the money. Between the last 2 surgeries and the birth of our youngest daughter, we are sitting on somewhere around $16,000 in medical bills spread out over about 25 accounts. That part sucks, because they all want you to pay and you want to pay but it just is not an option to make payments on all 25 accoutn every month. So needless to say several of the account have gone to collections and we are trying to pay them off as we can. Two, I need to get back to work to continue my progression. I am in training to be a Journeyman Lineman. I am 1 year into a 4 year program. We hit a step of progression every 6 months and with that progression comes a raise of around $2/hr. As, some of you may know, $2/hr every 6 months adds up quickly when you are trying to pay off bills. Three, I am in know way built to be a stay at home dad. I have gained so much respect for what my Wife deals with and goes through on a daily basis . I had no idea it would be this hard.
Anyways, my wife is doing well, and we are both looking forward to 5 months from now when she can get her implants in. Get your minds out of the gutter, I am talking about teeth. LOL. I will leave you all with this picture. It is a copy of her Xray after the first procedure in August.
Sorry for the long read and thanks for make this place like a little mini vacation every day when I need a little break from reality.
