I have some funny stories about my late father's time in southeast Asia. The funniest one is probably when he held his dying best friend in the middle of an ambush. He then took his friend's body back to Tennessee. It gets funnier. He then goes and sees my grandfather in the hospital after having a stress MI from the knowledge of what my Dad was doing in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
My favorite is years later when you'd go to wake him up, you never knew if you'd wake him or the rage. He would awaken, not really awake but semiconscious and would fight. That was awesome.
It was great when he got off the plane in SF and got spat on. The only reason anything is known of my father's service is the papers I have and the stories he told me and the men that he served with. They didn't talk about it with their wives. They didn't talk about it with their fathers (most were WWII veterans). Dad wouldn't talk about it at all except with me and his "brothers".
War isn't ******* funny. There are no funny ******* stories. That war caused the deaths of 58000+ of my father's brothers and injured 10x that many. They got to come back to a country that didn't support them and didn't want them. Ha ha ha. **** you.
