The plot thickens.

If Panini can produce MLB licensed cards, that'll make for some interesting competition.

This has been a rumor for weeks and nothing substantial has come out yet. I'll wait for something a little better than a blog post before I buy into it.

Doesn't Donruss got a lot of legal issues to deal with for making some of those baseball cards. Wouldn't that have to be cleared up before they could be bought.

If you listen to my last interview with Scott Prusha from DLP he hinted at this as well.

I agree that it is not "OFFICIAL" but you can pretty much bank that this is going to happen per my sources. Believe what you want, im just setting expectations though.

with the right deal, companies with legal problems are sold all of the time.

Nothing HAS to be worked out in regards to the mlbpa lawsuit before a sale is made.

Nope.

One could buy the assets of Donruss and none of the liabilities. It would effectively kill the company, but given that the main assets are goodwill (name brand/history), printing operations, and the contracts of the players, it can go on without a problem. It's an easy way out of the lawsuit.

If this turns out to be true, I think it was effing brilliant on the part of DLP to make what they could off of Prime Cuts and Threads when they could.

If they can sell to Panini and settle the MLBPA lawsuit, they're golden.

Best case scenario for me is Panini using the weight of their NBA contract to hopefully get a MLB license, and we get 2010 Absolute Memorabilia - produced by DLP/sold by Panini. :D

My local cardboard guy said the talks to buy Donruss had begun before Panini landed the NBA exclusive.

If this goes through and the quality of the football releases suffers, I am going to be pissed.

Yeah, I am done until I am sure that its going to be the same.

Interesting thing - I just got the classics football preview yesterday, I wonder what they will do with that.

IF it would happen, I hope the transition would be better than the Fleer bankruptcy and transfer to UD.
