So I bought 2 contenders from a guy with a legit ebay transaction of $52. I added some more stuff he had and the total was 176.

this was on july 18th.

I still have not received my cards. Placed a complaint to ebay and to paypal. The seller never responded and thus the dispute was decided in my favor.

they gave me $12.50 and said that's all they could get for me. The seller had 247 feedback, how does the buyer's protection work?
What am I missing here?

More disputes? jeez you get at least 1 or 2 a week it seems, you gotta find some different buyers / sellers.

Anyways, you are covered, but if the idiot seller takes out his money, you get whatever hes got in there so you are SOL

I've seen Paypal credit the rest back once you call and complain on eBay deals. It sounds like that was all they could retrieve from his account. Contact a cs rep and light them up. Paypal does make exceptions and pay out for dead beats like that from time to time. They make enough on fees right? They might as well help out customers once in awhile.

On a side note, the only "true seller protection" happens when you pay via CC on off eBay deals. That way you can file for a chargeback and get your money back no matter what Paypal says or what amount of cash is in the sellers account.

This just isnt true.

Did you pay using the auction you won or did you send payment using the "send money" option?

Is the guy still active on eBay? Did you neg him? Did you request his contact info? Call him up on the phone?

send money option....however, the seller marked it as payment received and since you can only pay payal I don't see this being a problem? In the future I will pay seperately so no one says in the future payment was never made and opens up a NPB on me which this weasel could of........they should still be able to get the $50 back for me at least, right?

I left him a positive actually, with a negative comment? Why?

Because he has 247 feedback at 100% and can never use that account again without paying me.....he bought and sold tons of stuff too.

What goes through people's heads here? lol. Skip town for a lousy 200? I thought the guy was hit by a bus or somethiing.

Eric--I honestly think the best idea for you would to be to take your hands off your keyboard and mouse, stand up, and run far, far, away from your computer and never return.......

If that option does not work, then CALL PAYPAL, and talk to a customer service rep. If this was an ebay transaction and you paid through ebay checkout using PAYPAL, you are covered for 100% of the transaction regardless. EBAY/PAYPAL will credit the money to your acct and then they will go after the person that ripped you off.

If this transaction was outside of ebay, then you should be worried, as they can only recover what the person has in their acct.

Also, you really need to understand the rules and regulations of sites and tools you are using. All of this is spelled out on Ebay and PAYPAL. All you have to do is read up on some things and you would not have this many problems or this many questions..... ::facepalm::

The seller protection helps you in cases where you pay for the auction individually. Once you didnt use that, you lost all that protection.

Wow! Did you hit the wrong button or something when leaving the feedback? I've done that before. Sometimes dropping the neg inspires people to communicate, even though it may not be in regards to the problem at hand.

Post the auction in question.

He obviously has no plans to sell anything anymore so what is the point........he has a perfect seller's record however it is tied to a negative paypal account so he is screwed without paying me.

He could always sell again using another paypal. I've used at least 2 different pay pal address when selling stuff on ebay simultaneously.

Re: paypal dispute resolved ~ spoke to paypal

Paypal said they could tie the auction I won off of ebay $51.50 to the payment made to the seller that day of 176. They recovered $13 of the inital 176 and now will pay me $51.50 and then go after him for their money and my money. They said the $ will be in my account later today. The gal at PayPal (very helpful and professional) said that there is no way this person will ever use paypal again unless it is under a different name, address and social security # (well, he could use his girlfriend's name and tie the paypal account to that).

However, he has his perfect ebay record, which has also been flagged, so if there is any activity under that name then they can tie the paypal address to the user name and neg their account as well she said.

Not bad. PayPal cares and tried to do everything they could and bent the rules a bit to get me my $50+ back.

Guy seems to be going through a lot of trouble to avoid paying a lousy 100 bucks in my opinion. This guy bought more than he sold, small PC collection purchases. Shame he is such a moron.
