I know this has been covered before, but what is the disadvantage to receiving payment from a buyer via a Paypal gift?

From what I understand, there is no recourse for a chargeback if anything goes awry.

Exactly. So only do if you trust the person.

Also, the shipping address doesn't come thru with it, but that's not that big a deal.

If a buyer uses a credit card, and eats the fees, they can do a charge back through their credit card company. Then when Paypal gets the charge back, they will pull it out of your account.
