Pedro was probably the best pitcher in the mid to late 90's and yes he is a first ballot HOF.

Why would I have to get rid of my lincy gold?markakis8 said:If you HAD to...
you were the deciding vote against Pedro making the HOF or NOT...as in your vote was the deciding factor....and if you voted YES you had to give up your Lincecum gold refractor rookie auto....
What would you do?

I think few would put Pedro any higher than #4 of his generation with (in no particular order) Johnson, Clemens, and Maddux all above him. Every single one of these pitchers had amazing stretches, and we're probably just splitting hairs...but to call Pedro Martinez as the "best of his generation" or "most dominant" is incorrect.
It is true that Martinez put up one of the greatest pitching seasons ever...but we're talking complete careers.
And for those stuck on the James HOF Monitor numbers easily found on Baseball-Reference.com...you'll be pleased to know that Pedro comes in 4th in this four-man race in every category (Black Ink, Gray Ink, HOF Monitor, and HOF Standards).
And to me, the simple fact that Pedro was the 4th best pitcher in his generation may play a role into a 2nd ballot election. And again, not stating I would vote that way, but history shows that HOF voters are extremely quirky in their voting habits.

Wow, interesting way of contesting it. And don't get me wrong, I'll be a **** just as much as anyone else, but at least I'll back it up something other than just being a **** for ****'s sake.Big Mac McGwire said:200lbhockeyplayer said:Let's not get too carried away with the "best of his generation" comments and explanations.

Maddux and the Unit ahead of him?? Your nuts. Clemens also??? hhahahaa go back to rink rook. 2nd ballot HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH . Clueless you are
I'm guessing that the people who voted "NO" are Mets fans.sethyarkony said:Man I made this thread basically to hear what someone who said "NO" to my question would argue... but apparently no one cares enough who voted NO or they just wanted to do it for some stupid reason in the first place.
One who watched baseball the last 13 years would have missed 1992-1995 when Maddux won 4 straight Cy Young's (which included 2 seasons with ERA's under 1.65.) I do agree that Pedro's peak was more impressive than Randy's.Big Mac McGwire said:your a nice guy, but you obviously havn't been watching baseball over the past 13 years because Pedro Was more dominating then Maddux and Johnson when he was in his prime against them in their prime. Look at his span of 7 seasons. WHIP, ERA, K's Innings pitched to hits , BB. Any span By maddux or Johnson does not come close to Pedro's Dominance from 96-03darocker80 said:Pedro was one of the best of his generation but i'll put johnson and maddux before him.
