the Penguins took Game 1 without much fight from the Flyers. Biron looked pretty bad and the Flyers of course gooned it up when they were losing by 4 in the 3rd. I would expect to see Eric Godard dress on Friday to take care of some business.

I will be at Game 2 :D

Beer. Wings. Pens playoff game. Man I love the bar atmosphere in western PA this time of year!

Had a blast watching it, but still wish I would have been able to go to the Pirates game I already had tickets for. Our agreed driver backed out a 11:00 the night before...but that's a story for a different time.

Re: Penguins vs Flyers (Pens lead series 2-0)

the Penguins won Game 2 in OT with less than 2 minutes to go on a goal by Bill Geurin. the atmosphere in Mellon Arena was awesome and when Malkin scored to tie it late in the 3rd it was the loudest the building had been all year until Geurin scored the game winner in OT.

the Flyers played a much more disciplined game and didn't take as many careless penalties at least not until the 5 on 3 that resulted in the winning goal. Fleury and Biron both played spectacular and they both made some great saves. I think the Flyers will win 1 of the 2 games in Philly and then the Pens will wrap it up here at home on Thursday night.

EDIT to add this pic from The Pens Blog

Philly won 6-3 yesterday and looked like the better team. Fleury was off his game a little and the offense struggled to score. I figured the Flyers would win this game when the series started but I think the Pens will Tuesday.

I thought Jeff Carter's goal was very impressive. Great series so far, a little bit of everything.

Re: Penguins vs Flyers (Pens lead series 3-1)

the Pens win 3-1 tonight. this was probably the best game of the series. the Pens defense struggled again tonight and they took 8 penalties but killed all 8. Fleury made 44 saves 18 of which were on the penalty kill. he looked incredible and made save ridiculous saves. Crosby, Kennedy and Talbot (empty net) with the goals for the Pens and Carcillo with the Flyers lone goal.

the series returns to Pittsburgh Thursday at 7 and I think the Pens will wrap it up and move on to the next series after some much needed rest.

Miroslav Satan will play instead of Petr Sykora tonight against the Flyers. it will be interesting to see Satan play since he hasn't played an NHL game since shortly after the trade deadline. Sykora struggled down the stretch and so far in the Playoffs so why not see what Satan can do.

I think that Sykora is hurt, I've never seen him struggle like he has the past 15 or so games. Letang might also be scratched in favor of Boucher, it's going to be a game time decision. I would make that move. Boucher might add more than Letang has to the PP and he has a pretty decent shot.

I was thinking that Sykora might be injured as well. he doesn't seem to have his normal stride maybe it's a groin injury or something in his legs. as for Letang it's probably better to sit him tonight so he can be 100% for the next game whether it be this series or the next. Boucher played very well in his last few games to end the season and might add some pop to the power play like you suggested.

It pains me to say this but go Philly. Biron still has a small place in my heart even though its Philly.:P

Re: Penguins vs Flyers (Pens lead series 3-1)

I broke a bottle at the bar during the game tonight (an accident). Not from the losing, but from FSN going black during the 2nd period. Is it just me, or did it seem like the Pens played it too slow and without heart when only down by 1? When the game came back on for me during their penalty kill, I know why they had to play the way they did. But after they were 5 on 5 again, it seemed like they didn't make much of an effort to clear the puck, or even charge down ice. Could have just been my sportmotion (sports-emotion) playing tricks on me though.

I hope they take it in game 6! Amazing how a Lightning fan like me can still get swept up in Pens Mania here in western PA. Then again, I guess when you team is gone you have to find somebody to cheer for in the playoffs

Re: Penguins vs Flyers (Pens lead series 3-1)

the Flyers were definitely the better team last and Biron made some great saves and stepped up to lead the Flyers to a 3-0 win. the Pens need to close this out on Saturday and not let it get to a Game 7 because as the saying goes "anything can happen in Game 7"

luckily I was able to watch a VS feed online when the blackout occurred on FSN.

the Flyers were up 3-0 early in the 2nd period and then Max Talbot fought Dan Carcillo which clearly fired up the Pens because they scored 5 unanswered goals to win 5-3 and take the series 4-2.

the Pens goals were scored by Fedotenko, Eaton, Crosby (2) and Gonchar with the game winner. Fleury made some amazing saves in the 2nd period and the save of the series against Lupul with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd.
