If Paterno did nothing wrong, why would he say today that he will resign at the end of the season? Because he knows he had a part in the problem. You don't have to shoot the gun to be charged with murder. You just have to know about it and not report it to the law. And the law is not the commissioner of your fantasy football league.

The Westboro "Baptist Church" will be protesting the Penn State/Nebraska game this weekend. Rowdy drunk fans pissed off about the firing of their coach, meet angry religious nuts shoving their views down your throat calling you all ****. This might be worth following more than the actual game.

Yup:

A leader might take a moment to knock out Jerry Sandusky with repeated blows so when the police arrive on scene, he'll still be there, right at the scene of the crime. A leader stands up. Leaders don't cower. Leaders don't run to daddy to ask for advice. Yeah, let's mull it over in front of the family fire place over cocoa while a ten year old endures a life-changing, earth-shattering assault. Lets look out for my own rear end by, in essence, protecting someone who in 2002, didn’t even work there anymore.

After I beat sandusky to an inch of his life, then I'd call 911

Apparntly there is more to come:

If what I was told tonight about the details of the new allegation in Sandusky child sex case is true, it will horrify the public.

I can confirm there will soon be new, major allegation involving child sex abuse in Sandusky case. Told tonite it could come before Saturday

People forget or don't know that even though he is beloved by most of the State College population, Joe Pa hasn't gotten along with alot of the higher-ups for awhile. The last "keep him or dump him" vote by the Regents (in '04 I believe) was reported to be only 5-4 in his favor.

With PSU's squeaky clean image, they never had any ammo to "go at him with", now they did. They dropped the hammer and I think it was to show the very powerful Athletic department that the Board is running the show, not the "jocks"...

Hey, at least it made the otherwise boring, low-scoring Nebraska game a must-see event for ESPN!

The thing I still can't believe is this has gotta be the first time in College Football history that an iconic coach, or any winning coach, has been pushed out mid-season, in a very good season at that. Coach Hayes' big mistake happened in the last game of the Season and plenty of coaches have been let go at the end of the regular season, but not like this...

Thanks for the links guys.

After reading through the report (having worked in emergency services for a number of years, I've read reports like this before) I remain of the opinion that Paterno is not as culpable as he is being made out to be. He was not present at any of additional meetings after his initial meeting with the graduate assistant and the jury also did not find him guilty of not following the CPSL. While he may be guilty of a moral or ethical lapse, the information does not support the claims that it was intentional or unlawful and, in my opinion, it certainly doesn't justify the current vociferous response by the public toward him.

I'd also like to mention that by terminating his employment as they have, the PSU council have simply made him a martyr to the students and athletes. Perhaps this was intentional, as a way of saving some part of his legacy, however I feel that it was a clumsy move made by an organization desperately attempting to save face by scapegoating.

And to minimize their damage from future civil cases... 8-)

Also true. Thanks for mentioning that!

edit: Here's a very poignant article on the media's handling of the entire event

Since they couldn't figure out how to get to his House without a scene, they fired him over the Phone. Pretty Lame IMO...

But I was wondering:

What IF he saw the Caller ID, knew the number and DIDN'T pick up? What happens then? :?

For those of you who don't know, Penn Staters are rioting. State College is a pretty small and inexperienced place, so they're not quite on L.A.'s level. They've just toppled a few street lights and flipped a few vehicles while angrily marching around. Police had been mobilized a couple hours ago. Hopefully they get this out of their system without anyone becoming a casualty.

Here's a youtube video of a news van getting flipped :

I sure hope they are rioting against the cover up and not the dismissal.

PSU should cancel the rest of the season. Its not fair to the players, but it wasn't fair to the children that Sandusky ruined.

And how does McQuery (sp?) keep his job?

It's Paterno supporters. They were shouting the fight song, school cheer, and things like "one more game!". There were many peaceful protesters, but then there were rioters.

Just when PSU needed a little more bad publicity...

Penn State absolutely did the right thing in terminating Joe Paterno immediately. The issue here isn't that there was a ********* on campus. If your local catholic priest can't be trusted with young boys, it's not shocking that the defensive coordinator can't either. The whole scandal is that the leadership of the university, including Joe Paterno and the president, knew about this and did close to nothing. They put football first. Joe Paterno admitted in his statement yesterday that he should have done more. Letting him retire on his own terms at the end of the season is to let him retire with dignity. To me, he deserves no such thing for what he did as the leader of the football program. For once, Penn State choose to put more important things ahead of football and let Joe Paterno go. It is unfair to the current football players but there are more important things than football. I'm sure those kids experienced a greater degree of injustice than these football players ever will. The rioting Penn State students are just an embarrassment.

Joe Paterno did nothing unlawful. I haven't heard anyone say that he deserves to be indicted or put in jail.

What Joe Paterno did was unethical as the leader of the football program. When one of your highest ranking employees is accused of such a thing, how can you do nothing? The reason he wasn't a participant in additional meetings was because he chose not to get involved. He ignored the situation and blocked it from his mind. He went about his day as if nothing had happened. And that is why he is now jobless. And rightfully so.

not so fast my friend. Paterno still may have some legal issues to deal from both the criminal and civil ends of the stick. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/w ... =hp_t11_a9

some inconsistencies between what McQueary said he told Paterno and what Paterno said he was told.

McQueary is a coward. He should have been fired as well.
