:? :? I want Hughes or Sheets to be the #5 starter. Do not get me wrong, I LOVE Pettite, but I just don't think he has any more gas left in the tank. But, hey, you never know. He did pretty good last year for us, so hopefully he will do the same for us this year.

i think its a good move. he pitched last year with a sore arm. hope he has a decent year. takes pressure off hughes. i just wish now they put joba back in the bullpen.

Really? I think last year was one of his worse years. I like Pettitte, he's been a great Yankee, but I would love to see them go with Hughes. Who know what will happen though. Maybe someone gets hurt and Hughes gets a chance.

it all depends on who can stay healthy. The yankees success this coming season will once again be determined by the ability of the starting pitching to stay healthy. As it is with all teams it is a cliche, but the yankees pitching has been hampered with injurys alot over the past few years especially last year. All of them besides Sabathia is coming back from a season where injury was present. Just got to hope they can stay healthy, but i will be shocked if Burnett can stay healthy all year.

Yeah looking back at his stats, maybe it wasn't his best year. You do have a good point, I would like Hughes have a chance to prove what amazing stuff he has.

I love it! I know what Pettitte can do. He knows how to pitch and because of that he doesn't always have to have his best stuff to win, like some of the younger pitchers often do. With an incentive laden contract, he should do well.
This also takes pressure off of Hughes and allows him time to develop his command just a little bit better. He will get his chance and do fine when he gets it.

This is the right move. I am a Yankees fan and probably one of the biggest hughes collectors on here. Phil's time will come. The Yankees have SP depth now, as good as any team.

CC, ****, AJ, Andy, Joba + Phil, Aceves and more

both Andy and Phil are both injury prone. Who knows. The whole yankee staff is injury prone besides Sabathia. The yankees success this coming season will once again depend on the ability for the pitching to stay healthy.

How is **** injury prone?

How is Joba injury prone?

I don't get this, pettite was awful last year. I don't think he won more than a game after the all star break. You've got hughes and joba to grow, and your still wasting 6 million dollars. come on.

Great move. I am one of the biggest phil hughes supporters out there, but you can never have to much pitching. I'm not worried about Phil...he will get his time. Injuries happen...emergency starts, etc.

I love to read that!! I have been listening to people say that he will get injured because he's fat for about 6 years now...

Hughes will be 9-1 at the all star break in AAA with a 1.59 ERA and 99 k's in 84 innings.

I personally fall into the "couldn't care less" category about Pettitte's signing.

Show me an offseason where the Yankees do nothing...now that's interesting.
