Victorino, Blanton avoid arbitration
The Phillies and outfielder Shane Victorino, and starting pitcher Joe Blanton have agreed to terms on a one-year contracts, it was announced on Tuesday. With the signings the team avoided arbitration with Blanton and Victorino.
One of the post-season heroes during the Phillies' World Series run, Victorino will get a raise from $480,000 to $3.125 million for the 2009 season. The 28-year-old outfielder bashed two homers during the playoff run, each one significant. The first was a grand slam off CC Sabathia of Milwaukee in Game 2 of the NLDS, and the other was a clutch, game-tying homer in the eighth inning of Game 4 of the NLCS.
They also re-signed Jayson Werth for two years and Chad Durbin.
