I've actually contemplated this before:

C= 99-00 Shaq
SG= 92-93 Jordan
PG= 86-87 Magic
SF= 85-86 Bird
PF= Present Lebron

Your PF would be dominated by Bill Rusell, Charles Barkley or Tim Duncan, in their best seasons.

Plus, I thought we were picking a PLAYER for each position, not a SEASON for that player.

Sure, most people only picked the position, but I'm thinking more along the lines of when I would like the players to be from. I think they were prob at their best at these times and this would be my Dream Team. Sure that's all debatable, but that's sort of the point right.

All time starting 5, everyone picked a PLAYER, not a season.

I don't know, maybe I am ignorant to the topic at hand.

Either way, LeBron is no PF.

Duncan, Russell, Barkley, Webber, Kemp in their PRIME, better at the position then he is/would be.

Only my opinion though.

We all got that going for us.

I really didn't make any rules. I think Shaqattak did something like the leagues they have on whatifsports.com which is picking specific seasons for the player.

I think Lebron is big enough, quick enough, and has enough moves to compete at PF. Think about this:
Lebron:
Height: 6-8
Weight: 250

Amare Stoudemire:
Height: 6-10
Weight: 249

Just based purely off the best at their respective positions I'd go like this:

PG: Magic (Could go with Stockton or Robertson depending on type of PG you want. Magic would be the biggest match up problem though)
SG: Jordan
SF: Bird (so far at least with LeBron well on his way)
PF: Duncan
C: Shaq (I'm not entirely convinced that Wilt or others at the time would be able to handle playing in a time period where they aren't generally the biggest by far.)

It's harder to compare NBA players over the history of the game than any sport I think. The game has changed so drastically. The rules aren't even the same anymore. Three point line, dunking, defensive changes, etc. It's a totally different game compared to the pre 70s times.

Wow, I just took that from yahoo. Didn't realize he put on another 25 lbs. This is why he is the best player in the league right now. That size with speed and control... No one can guard that.

It's so random, but I was discussing the same thing today with someone. It's no wonder he is able to drive on anyone. He's 100 pounds heavier than guys in the backcourt.
