The Pirates Caravan kicked off yesterday, with both caravan groups attending the opening event at Seven Springs, a ski resort owned by the Pirates owners. The event is essentially a mini Piratefest, with games, autograph signings, and various other activities. I got there about an hour early, and had a decent spot in line. We were able to get through the first autograph group pretty fast, but the autograph line was huge. My girlfriend was more interested in playing some of the games than getting back in line, so most of the other autographs are from running to a guy here and there as they moved through the small convention hall.
Bob Walk was essentially stationed at the corner of the bar all night, and was in an understandably talkative and friendly mood all night. Charlie Morton was a late addition, after had to pull off the caravan due to flooding in his house. Charlie was incredibly friendly, signing autograph and talking with fans the entire night. He seemed to genuinely enjoy the experience...I just wish he had a few more cards available. Forgive the horrible on the 8X10's. The photos are all in great shape, but the photo pages they're in are scratched up pretty bad.
I also added a few new cards to my collection over the last few weeks, most of which came from deals with board members. The Clemente bat card is my first gu of his. Also grabbed a few packs of 2010 Topps hoping to hit some cards to get signed at Piratefest. No such luck, but I do like the look of this year's set a lot more than I expected.
