I think it needs to be noted that these were not the Pirates starters...think A ball/Caliber type players.....

Some of these community colleges are very good, we have a local one that has churned out quite a few professional ball players, including Jim Thome. I bet there are a lot of minor league teams that would have their hands full with some of the community colleges...

Lastly it is a yahoo sports written article, which I think are pretty pathetic. Author notes that most of these players were cut but then states that they are Triple-A and 4A players??? Doubtful!!! Also, noted players McCutchen and Tabata, and I think Neil Walker, played enough to get 2 at bats, in fact nobody had more than 2 at bats....

I have copied the box score below for those that care....

The Riverlands.
So what if they were mostly minor leaguers. We are talking a community college. If they lost to UCLA or a highly regarded Baseball university, than I can see. But it was a crap community college and that is pitiful.

You are vastly underestimating the quality of community college baseball programs....

Or, on the other hand, greatly overestimating the quality of the pirates minor league system.

This is also the same Community College that Derrek Lee attended before being drafted......in fact, there are 26 Major League Baseball Players that have played for this particular community college alone since 1963...

Pretty much, A Lot of good players go to a C.C. or J.C. for a year to two before transferring into a big D1 school....

Some MLB teams send players to CC after they draft them out of high school. I know that happened to a guy who went to my high school. They use it as a sub-minor league system, so they don't have to pay the player, but can get him some experience.

I go to a major state university in Texas with almost 30k students and I'm pretty sure we haven't had any good MLBers. That CC must know exactly what they are doing.

Called draft and follow. Doesn't really happen anymore, at least not to the extend is used to.
