It seems kind of low on the Pirates part. They should have asked a little bit more for Sanchez. Good trade for SF.

alderson=above average prospect
sanchez=below average infielder

All-Star infielder.

:lol: :lol: Only because every team has to have at least one representative.

I guess winning the NL batting title doesn't count for anything........it just
makes him average?

get off your high horse. He has a career line of:

.300/.336/.421/.756 with only 37 HRs. I realize he is not a power hitter, but his career OPS+ is 98. That makes him below average, actually.

Freddy Sanchez is a very good player! Don't listen to these prospectors that think just because a guys rookie isn't hot makes him crap as a player! I'll take a proven middle infielder like Sanchez over an unproven player anyday.

Sanchez is a very good hitter, able to work counts, see a high number of pitches, and make great contact. He isn't a power hitter, but will get more than his share of doubles and can hit the occasional homer. I think the additions of Garko and Sanchez will be a huge boost to the Giants offense, and may give the Giants the push they need to make the playoffs.

It's bittersweet to see Sanchez go, but this deal looks much better than the trade earlier today. Alderson will likely become the top pitcher in the Pirates system, and potentially give them the ace potential that had been painfully lacking in the system.

Sanchez is a pretty good scrappy player, but I don't that's what the Giants need.

Duke is different. He is a VERY good, young pitcher. He is a MUCH better player than Sanchez.

Wow, possibly even more impressive...no money will be changing hands.

Giants will probably be on the hook for a little over $2mil this year, as well as the 8.1mil option for '10.

I've always been a fan of Freddy Sanchez. He may be an average fielder but he has a decent bat (at least he did the last 2 seasons).

This has nothing to do with prospecting. Sanchez won a batting title, like four years ago. He hasn't finished near the top since then. He doesn't give you much power, he doesn't give you SB's, he's probably average-ish defensively. He's a solid player.

Sanchez is a solid player, and All-Star caliber hitter, and defensively average at 2B. However, by no stretch of the imagination did I expect to get a player the caliber of Alderson in exchange for him.

Hell, the Bay trade didn't even net an high ceiling prospect of his caliber.

Sanchez is a guy that has value beyond stats. He can play 3 different position, and is a great contact hitter. He can spell your whole infield in the span of a week, and is a sprk plug at the top of the order. I wish my Tigers would have taken a stab at him.
