As a player collector, do you find it frustrating that the same cards keep getting listed over and over and over and over again on eBay?
Where is the variety? I find it hard to believe that everyone has the same cards. Where are the cards that aren't being listed?
I am not talking about 1/1's or even low #'d cards but even inserts and higher #'d parallels.
I check COMC, Sportlots, JustCommons and Beckett Marketplace daily and it seems that the cards I need NEVER show up.

Very frustrating. I player collect many players and this is the case with all of my players.

There are very few Pucketts that are listed on a day to day basis that I actually need other than ones that are very overpriced. I started collecting other oddball items like magazines, bobbleheads, schedules, etc.. This has given me a whole lot more to pursue but I am spacing them out so that I don't blow my card budget when something I need actually appears.

I agree. I always see the same Konerko stuff listed over and over. It's kind of annoying.

Every so often a new seller or collection will hit the site, and then you might start seeing a new variety of cards. Most frustrating is seeing the same cards you want, hugely overpriced, being listed at the same prices year after year. If they didn't sell for the last 3 years at 400% book value, they're probably not going to sell for that this year. I guess that's where all those free listings come in, people can keep posting the same absurd listings over and over with no penalty.

I had a thought a couple of weeks ago that someone needs to build a multi-site search tool similar to what Steve Morse does for genealogy research sites at http://stevemorse.org/

Then we could search eBay, Sportlots, Justcommons, Bidstart, onlineauction, BuyMyCards.net, COMC and Beckett all at once.

+1, That would be fantastic!

I have the same problems, overpriced or nothing I'm looking for.

The other thing that's starting to get to me is the repetitive non-imaginative duplications of cards year after year....

2011

2013

Plus the plethora of other Topps Products whose Relic cards say the same thing.

I know the feeling! They really aren't making Kearns cards and new Bobby Doerr cards are few and far between. I think I'm getting pretty close to having pretty much everything of my two guys anyway. Maybe once every few months I find a card I don't have or haven't seen. I guess it's good for my wallet though....

Yep, definitely feel that way. Each year it seems that I get that year's releases, a couple older 1/1s, and, if I'm lucky, one non-1/1 card that I've been missing. I'm missing so few cards at this point that there aren't any cards I'm missing on eBay, overpriced or not.

I started a second collection of Gomes just to have something to do. That collection is now at 383/411 (93%), only missing 28 cards (as opposed to 7 for the main collection). I should be able to pick up some of those cards over time, but even those ones are few and far between.

I went through this in the summer. A few JJ's would show up, but very few, if any, at auction. Everything is a BIN 3x or more what it should go for. I took a 3 month hiatus from eBay and most forums and came back rejuvinated. I didn't even look at past sold auctions though. Didn't wanna see what I missed out on. Take a break or look for some oddball non-card items or go hard after a minor PC that you've been wanting to do better with.

Not only the same cards in general, but often the SAME EXACT CARD. How many times do I need to see the same guy list his GU card numbered to 50 that is so far overpriced that it will never sell. Never a price reduction or even a sale, just keep banging your head on the wall over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over (see, it get's annoying quick)!

The overpriced cards annoy the hell out of me.
Some are listed for years with very little price change.
Oh and the best part is when one actually sells, then it's listed again a week later.
I simply don't understand it.

All are great points! I have noticed everything all of you have said since I've been watching Bagwell stuff since 2007. And even the part MFONY said about the card selling and then popping up a week later at a higher price is true. I feel like messaging some of these sellers and ask them what their real price is and if it's close to reality, I'll buy it right then and there no questions asked.

But I think I'm unlike a lot of you because I collect a slew of players and also sets. So I'll always be after something even if Bagwell dries up. The unfortunate part about that is that it doesn't allow me to stash money away for future Bagwell purchases. But IMO that is a fortunate part for a lot of you guys who just go after one or two players. If they dry up, you can save and ensure you'll win the next card that pops that you need. I've personally cut back to just obtaining rookies and autos of players I don't already have one of. I think after a while, I'll be caught up and just focus only on my sets and Bagwell. I knock off a few Stackhouse cards every few months but his prices can be stupid for a player of his caliber.

So count yourselves lucky to be disciplined enough to collect just one player.

There are lots of us sitting on thousands of cards needing to be moved . I have 400,000 most by team and in alpha order , commons and some cheap inserts 1985 /2012 . That's about 160 of 3200 counts . Also have football
Send a list i'll look that won't cost you anything . But don't expect a reply in a couple days I do have a day job LOL .
As for reposting same cards over and over on Ebay most my sales have been reposted and posted cheaper .
During minor league season I might be able to help get IP if we play your team / player here .
The main card I'm looking for is Matt Capps Sweet Spot glove , only one in last year .

Tell me about it. In the past month I've only added 2 Sizemore items. They're both killer, but I wish my thrice daily searches were more fruitful.

I sometimes wish I could win the lottery just to clean up the McGwire listings. I would probably be able to fill a railroad boxcar with 90's commons.

Ive pretty much given up the card chase and do strictly full game used memorabilia.
I display all of my game used items vs having books of cards that sit on a shelf.
Thats where I find my fun in collecting these days.

I'm there.

I've slowed up on Clark/Murray. Erstad is maybe 1 card a month, although my list of needs is pretty robust. Bucky Jacobsen is a handful of cards per year since my list is so small.

What's helped is game used items... picked up 3-4 jerseys this year and a couple bats. Also got a nice Erstad batting helmet.
