My 1333 ct nomar collection is built through purchasing lots, some trades, and freebies. The most expensive lot would be around $20, single auto $40, single card $10.. I'm probably into it around $1500 ish.. In all fairness my collection fails in some areas compared to yours Dave!

My 151 ct hankerson football collection is around $800 out of pocket. Ive started a deron cherry collection and I'm thinking $120 should get me everything!

I'm going to keep track because of your topic

I just totaled up my Christian Friedrich collection (not including MiLB and base cards)

Came up to $535. Probably closer to $625 with everything included.

My collection of 75 Different cards includes 9 Donruss Letterman SP/30, 4 Razor Letterman #/20, 13 Different Cards #/25, 1 card #/10, 5 Different Cards #/5, 6 One-of-Ones (4 are Printing Plates)

I was in college when the majority of my player's cards came out (Trent Dilfer), and I traded for a lot of stuff, so probably only 3-4 thousand.

My A's collection eclipses 10 grand I'm sure. I've never spent more than $105 for a card, but $1 here, $5 there, $20 over there adds up real quick. Then if you factor in the cost of the cards I traded for A's stuff...I don't want to think about it.

Also have a video game collection that I have probably dropped 5k on.

But hey, it's better than spending the money on booze, drugs, and hookers. Maybe.

I enjoy the posts including chatting with the significant other. Theresa rips on me all the time with "Why did you get that, that's not new." I ask her, "Should I go look for some synthetic marijuana to smoke and grab a bottle of rum ? You want me to blow my money that way ?" She gets quiet then. At least, this way, you have something to show for your work instead of a hangover or a plastic bake filled with puke.

And I'm fairly certain she doesn't know how much money I've thrown into the wind for Dennis Northcutt stuff. For a guy of his "stature", it's quite sad. Probably around $3K for Dennis ...... Northcutt" ...

Here's the problem ... 200 autos/GU x $3.00 shipping = $600 before even bids/wins

Thus $2K ...

I just find it funny when you listen to others speak about how they spend their money and then they find out how you spend yours(sans bills). They act like you should be spending your money like they do. It's weird....

If you want to be happy and keep building that PC, I would NOT keep track of stuff like this. Like cmixer said... Well, I started keeping track one time, and when I realized I had spend close to $1000 on s/h alone, I quit keeping track. Shortly after that I could no longer justify spending so much money on cards. I was much happier when I was just pouring money into my hobby and not really paying attention to how much money.

So my answer is: I have no idea how much I've spent on any of my 3 PCs, I just know it was waaaay tooooo much.

This is a question I've tried not to think about as Sizemore's had nothing but trouble for 3 years. I have tried really hard to convince myself not to compile a total, but I've always been curious what it's come to over 12 years. The 5 priciest cards in my Sizemore collection:
1) 2010 TTT ASG Patch $670
2-4) 2011 Topps Diamond parallel 1/1, 2007 A&G Wood, 2008 Premier Bat Barrel @$350 each
5) I know there was another one for about $225. I can't recall the exact card, which is sad, but I'm tired

So that's about $1900 in just 5 cards. I'm probably forgetting a couple cards in that range. His 2004 BDP ruby refractor 1/1 was my first big purchase of his, when I really committed to collecting him, was $175. $100 is the benchmark for a nice 1/1 or low-numbered patch or auto from an in-demand set, especially during his prime days, and I've got a bunch of those. But they've come down some, as I recently got the 2012 A&G wood for $93. Then I've got a GU bat that was $325, I'm sure I was shilled on it but no recourse was available. And about 1000 more cards ranging from 50 cents to $75. I probably have spent at least a grand just in shipping. Paying $2 to ship a 50-cent card kinda sucks, but it's what you have to do. Could'a spent that much on beer, I always tell myself.

^^^ a collector's words of wisdom. I'd add that if you have a budget stay in it, you want to avoid having to eat mayonnaise sandwiches.

Honestly, the only people who seem to really care how much(total or otherwise) you have spent on any hobby seem to be people who don't respect your hobby or understand what it's like to have a hobby. And they are the same people who mindlessly spend $ on other non-necessary crap that adds up. And then they'll tell you it was okay for them to spend $*** amount on whatever strupid crap they got.

Funniest thing I ever heard was a friend's sister telling me(after I purchased an x-men #1 comic for $1200) that she would have rather have spent the money on liposuction. She told me how stupid I was. I told her exercise is free. Man she still hates me! Imagine that!
