So what to you collect of you player? Everything ever created? Just autos? Just relics?

I'm just curious. I narrowed my focus to just Nolan Ryan but even then, that's around 10,000 cards.

I'm thinking of narrowing even further and doing just autos or autos and jumbo patch cards. I'm just curious what others do.

Looking at the 70+ Nolan Ryan cards released in 2011 it gets pricey year after year. Add to that the expense of stabbing them all (and Beckett's growing ineptitude) and I think I might like to just save space, time and expense.

So what do you collect?

Everything and then some...it's just collecting and I've got the rest of my life.

That said, I do have priority projects, but anything is game if the price is within budget.

For us it pretty much used to be everything..But I learned real quick that its alot easier to pick up the really rare stuff when it pops up then wait for it again...So now its the rarer stuff first, then pretty much anything we dont have after. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Depends on the player. I collect Vanderbilt players. Some, like Price, Cutler and Sonny Gray have so many releases I stick to the higher end/rare stuff. For those that likely only have 1 or 2 releases in their career, I tend to pick up as much as I can.

I used to collect ALL cards and everything. I have now eliminated ALL game used cards and auto cards after 2001 from my lists. So I collect all base, parallels, and inserts non game used or autographed.

Even after eliminating the game used and autos, there are still a ton of cards that will show up at any given time I need. So I have set priorities for my collection. My HR ticket collection is at the top of the list right now as I am only 80 or so tickets away from completion.

Good luck with the collection!

Though I focus more on some players than others, the 2 I actually consider as my collections are Brandon Webb and Daniel Hudson. I'm only interested in cards in a D-backs uniform, which is easy for Webb, as he has a total of 1 card that isn't as a D-back.

It's a little different for Hudson- he has quite a few cards from 2009 and 2010 as a White Sox player. I decided not to try and focus on those and just go after all his D-backs stuff. It made the list much more manageable, down from somewhere over 250 to just 143. And incredibly, of those 123, 61 are 1/1's. Its insane that nearly 50% of his total cards are 1/1's, but at least I won't spend too much since half of them will probably never surface.

For both, I try to focus on the rare stuff first, as its easy to just miss out and never see something again. I can always get that base card later, but rare cards are priority.

ETA: I also don't count cards with multiple players on it in my collection. Not really sure why, just never appealed to me to have someone I don't collect on the card.

I collect mainly Tigers, but also everything. I'm a bit weird when it comes to this subject. I just collect one auto from each player that I like and that's it. I don't collect numerous auto's from each player. I just collect auto's as well. Not to much into the little game used swatches that you get unless it's like a quad patch or something like that.

As I'm looking back through my collection and thinking through this, I guess it comes down to enjoyment. So much of what's in there is in there because I wanted as many Nolan Ryan cards as possible. Now that I have a lot, I find I don't really enjoy most of them.

The autos I always gravitate to and love, so I guess those are something I'll always keep and focus on. I have a few non-auto 1/1s I'd rather not part with, but might just for the sake of focus.

I mainly roll with Pujols oddball cards: box toppers, box bottoms, jumbos, minis, food issues, regional issues, convention/show only issues, stadium giveaways, allstar fanfest issues, foreign issues, magazine inserts, promos, samples, previews, test issues, eTopps, contest issues, etc...

Nicholson - everything

My daughter's collection - vintage g/u cards, primarily Roger Maris

Billy Williams/other Cubs - very select g/u, parallels, and autos

Andre Dawson - at one point I was trying for everything, but now I only bid/buy the cards that appeal to me.
I sold some "nice" cards that I just didn't care for.

Everything. Right now I have mostly cards, GU/Auto items, and HR tickets. This year I hope to add SLU figures, bobble heads, autographed photos.

I do just about anything; I don't do minor league or show stamped after-market stuff.

Focus on any cards pre-2001....Any Game used pre-2002 and any oddball item that I've not seen before. That's really about it. The rest just comes when I see a good deal.
