Do you try to get them all? If you do, do you count autographed copies separate than unautographed?
How many Gameday stadium magazines do you think a 15-20 year star has?

When I was seriously collecting Rickey Henderson in the '80s and '90s, I'd get every magazine I could find with him on the cover.
He was on all the sports and hobby magazines of the day from 1989-1991, when he was at the height of his popularity in the hobby, returning to the A's in 1989, winning the MVP in 1990 and setting the stolen base record in 1991.
I also have a few from 1982, when he broke the season SB record, and the '80s Yankees monthly fan mags... three different Beckett mags, Tuff Stuff, Baseball Cards Mag., Baseball Hobby News, Baseball Digest, Sport, SI, and tons of obscure magazines.
I have about 30 different covers, but none are autographed.
They're all in a drawer in my old bedroom at my parents' house.

You should get a picture. I may not have some of them.

I'll usually pick any magazines or media guides or programs with Bagwell on the cover. I think I have a lot of the ones that currently exist. But I usually get very little competition for them anyways so I'm not really hunting them per se. Just kind of a nice little side project.

I can't say that i am real knowledgable about the magazine market, but my experience with them has been frustrating.

As a seller, it seemed that nobody wanted them and when they did, they didn't want to pay much. Shipping them is bulky and expensive, which jumps the price up fast.

As a buyer, it seems that everyone wants too much for the one's I see for sale that I'd want. i get the felling most sellers set a price they want and just wait until some player collector will finally bite the bullet and buy at their price.

I have many magazine covers, but Garvey was not on as many as many of the more popular players because of his time frame. I chase the really obscure one's now mostly, when they show up, but then I have to hope that they are reasonably priced too. I won't overpay for a magazine unless it is something extremely special. I remember someone was selling an airplane magazine that happened to have Garvey on the cover. It was from a defunct airline and the magazine was in the kind of shape you'd expect a magazine from the seat pocket to be, plus there was a fairly good sized chunk missing from one of the corners! The owner never adjusted the price after several attempts to sell it. They probably still have it.

I do try to get anything with Ryno on the cover. I don't go after the auto'd ones. I currently have over 100 different copies of what I put in my "magazines" category.

I have a list of magazines that I got from other Puckett collectors and I actively collect anything I don't already have. I will buy anything that has Puckett on the front or back cover. I usually target sellers with multiple items that I need just to save on shipping but that is getting hard to do at this point.

I collect anything with Gary Carter, Roger Staubach, Bernie Williams and Ralph Sampson on the cover. I have a couple hundred from the first guys and far less from the Bernie and Sampson. I used to collect Kareem Abdul Jabbar and that opened an entirely different market up. Until ebay I had no idea that the European basketball collectible market existed, I found dozens of magazines from Spain, France and Italy with Kareem on the cover, those were fun to chase.

As for autographed covers, I don't count them separately. If I find an autographed magazine at a good price I just trade or try to sell the unsigned copies. Before Carter passed away I used to get a few of my favorite covers signed whenever I went to a signing. Staubach rarely does autograph appearances so I have mostly kept everything unsigned and for the price of Bernie's autograph it's just not worth it to do magazines in my opinion.

I've managed to pick up somewhere around 80 magazines and catalogs, not quite all have been scanned. There are a lot of misc Venezuelan magazines with Omar on the cover, probably 5x what I've been able to acquire.

I actually like newspaper articles as much or more than magazines. I've got hundreds of them, which should keep me busy scanning/editing for quite a long time!

I don't care about autographs at all. Would prefer to have most items unsigned.

I have no Albert Belle magazines, game day magazines or newspapers. Just not something I'm interested in right now. Too much time, energy and money going towards chasing the tons of new cards of his in new Topps products.

For what bits worth though, think it's cool you do go after your guy!

I am surprised that more foreign memorabilia like this doesn't seem to see the light of day, but then again maybe it does and i just don't notice.

I believe finding vintage magazines fromMexico, South America, Japan, Europe, etc seems to be tough, at least those that feature any reference to Steve Garvey at all.

So you have a checklist?? That would be so helpful!!!

At one time, I had every Kareem Sports Illustrated... More than 20 I believe! Love Kareem!

I hear you. I go through spurts. Right now I'd rather spend $6 on an old magazine, than some random card without logos.
I collect covers only, don't really care about them being signed.

Covers only (cut off)? Or front cover full mags? Some cool mags there! The one with his wife is horrible...horribly great!
Sweet!! That camo one is Costacos Brothers-esque!
