I collect Alex Rodriguez and focus my player collection on years 1993-1999. I am looking everyday for cards of his from 1997-1999 since I already own every card from 1993-1996 except ONE. That one is the missing link in my collection. It is the 1994 Action Packed 24K Gold Diamond #1D and serial #ed/100. If you find one please think of me.

YOU KNOW
for miggy i think his highest selling card is his tt auto graded 9.5 (or 20 obviously but ive never seen one for sale). each bgs 9.5 (i think ive seen 3 or 4) went for 900-1100. but i dont really care about grade, so thats not the ultimate card for me. my favorite cards are logos and his best logo imo is his 08 premier logo, so thats his ultimate card imo

For me, it would be the jeff francoeur 08 ud premier logoman patch. I lost the bidding by a dollar when it came out.

Luckily for me Ryan Howard, heritage and Allen & Ginter have hooked up for some
very nice autograph cards. I was able to pick up the very rare 09 card last year from
a collector here, I am hoping to pick up the other years, even though they look
for the most part the same. The N43 autographs are really nice and I am lucky to
own the 09 auto numbered to just 15 and the GU version which is numbered 6/25
which is his jersey #. I also have the red ink heritage autograph from 07.

For me the two players I have the most of would be Ortiz and Buchholz and I'd pick these as each of their ultimate cards.

Great topic Ravi!

For Schilling, it would probably have to be the 1993 Finest Refractor. I don't currently own one but I have a deal worked out for one in the future.

The only other one that comes close would be the 2007 Topps Sterling Letter Patches. Schilling only has one other letter patch set (2002 Fleer Focus) so they're extremely hard to come by. This one is currently on it's way to me.

I'd add in this one as well, which it should be added for a lot of players probably as well.

For my Olerud collection, the #1 most wanted card is his 1988 Penninsula Oilers Summer College League card. True, it's not an MLB card, and it's a pretty crude excuse for a baseball card, but it's his first appearance on cardboard and it's one of the very few that picture him as a pitcher. I've had a heck of a time trying to find it. It pops up on eBay rarely and it's usually in the team set.

Great question Ravi. There are 3 guys that I collect so here's my thoughts.

For Pete Rose it would be his 1963 Topps RC. For Chris Sabo it would be 1993 Finest Refractor. For Adam Dunn, I would say 1999 Topps Traded autograph or 1999 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor. I do have a Superfractor of Dunn (see avatar) and like others mentioned, these are pretty high on the list.

I could add that for Sosa also. Only a couple have appeared on eBay (to my limited knowledge) and of course were way out of my collecting range.

I'd pick the following cards that can apply to many guys in different eras

Pre 1993 - Rookie Cards or odd ball super rare issues
1993 through 1996 only guys - 1993 Finest Refractors
1996 Select Certified Mirror Golds
1997 Flair Masterpieces/ Leaf Certified Mirror Black
1998 Crusade Reds
Then in the Rookie 1/1 Era you'd have to go with those for most

I would also pick some of the Sterling Bat Barrels for players, or the premiere logomen.

Cool card! I remember finally tracking down my '89 Peninsula Cirillo (also featured as a pitcher coincidentally). I bit the bullet and over paid for a team set iirc. Good luck with the Olerud. For my Cirillo collection I'd probably have to say the ultimate card would be any of his Legacy Collection Masterpieces of which I own zero. My only hope may be that I outlive whoever's private collection they are in. Great topic

Subtracting the obvious 1/1 or bat barrell cards or even the Jumbo 5 x7 or Auqeous test from Donruss, for me this is the Clark card that is the ultimate:

I think for a 2010's card, it's probably a 1/1 or very close, with a unique GU piece and autograph, plus a nice design and at least a small photo of the player. I can't think of an exact match for those specs among Sizemore card, but this is the closest for me:
barrel.jpg

Really a beautiful card. A very nicely cut barrel, compared to others that look like they were cut with flint-flake tools. It's one of 3 or 4 cards I have propped up on display in my card closet.

The only one I can think that I'd like better is last year's TTT All-Star Game logo patch triple-folder but it hasn't surfaced yet, AFAIK.

The '86 over the '87 Fleer? Oh man the '87 Fleer Clark was a dominant card for me as a kid. I remember buying one for $27 which at the time was a deal because it was "less than book". The Thrill still rules
