If you could be any baseball player in Major League history for just one game, who would it be and why? (Example, not Buckner in game 6 of the 86' WS or Donnie Moore in the 86' ALCS game when Baylor and Hendu took him yard in the 9th, down 5-2 and then 5-4, putting the BoSox up 6-5...)

Respond in a paragraph or less to qualify for the contest.

Winning entry (I am judge of the best response in this contest-- not public opinion) gets a free modern autograph and some sort of parallels from the team of his choice.

I will mail out tomorrow, Wednesday, so you must move fast.

Happy holidays.

(Submit all responses by noon tomorrow, and only one entry per person)

There are many incredible moments in Major League Baseball history, its almost too hard to choose. But after reading the topic at hand, the first thing that came to mind would be...

David Ortiz, in game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. To be down 3 games to none, in extra innings, barely holding on to any possibility of a World Series appearance, to hit a game winning walk off homerun to keep your team alive in the playoffs, and then because of that moment, it allows the Red Sox to continue into the playoffs and go on to the World Series, also on the bat of Ortiz a few more times.

Without that clutch walkoff, it all wouldnt have happened. To be David Ortiz in that moment, and the rest of that evening/morning, would be one incredibly joyful buzz.

First off thanks for the contest!

I would have to go with Luis Gonzalez in the 2001 world series game 7. It would have been a very emotional game to play in just for the fact of the 9/11 attack. He started and had no hits until he came up in the 9th inning with runners on for a chance to win the teams first championship, and he didn't let down! I have watched the game over 25 times and each time l get the chills through my spine, it is THE game of the Diamondbacks history and he is our legend!

Sorry if this is too long.

Not part of the contest, I just want to respond with ANY players first full day on a major league field. Pre-1960. The rush and amazement they had to feel stepping onto those hollowed grounds. I would of loved to play or see the old stadiums in all there glory.
Or
Felix hernandez on his perfect game day, or griffey on the night the M's beat the Yankees in the 95 playoffs

I'd love to be at or even in an All-Star Game as a Player.

But for ONE game, I'd go with Mike Mussina, the winning Pitcher for Cal Ripken's 2131 game, when he broke Gehrig's record.

I bet he had a great perspective for all of that. I was always a fan of his, even when he went to the stinkin' Yankees. He's kinda local (about 2 hours away), went to Stanford, another personal Favorite, was always a true Pro, overcame personal adversity mid-career and is a Possible HOFer. Can't ask for me than that.

If I had to choose one player for one game I would want to be the following:

Kirk Gibson for his 1988 Walk off World series home run. To be injured in both legs and basically not be able to run and come up against Eckersly and hit a walk off home run would be the most amazing feeling in the world IMO. Nobody would have expected that to happen and to do it in the World Series against an incredible closer was just amazing.

I hated him his whole career, but I would love to come out of the bullpen to Enter Sandman at old Yankee stadium. You can guess the player. Doesn't matter the game. Just the feeling of the crowd going nuts would be sweet.

September 8, 1993. I would become Darryl Kile and pitch his no-hitter against the Mets. My reasoning has nothing to do with it being particularly important for baseball history or for it being significant for the team in the long run. I would want to experience this game from his perspective to see it from the other end of the experience. This game is what turned me into a life-long fan of baseball and Darryl Kile. As a 12-year-old, this game is what turned me from someone interested in the game of baseball into someone that loved the game of baseball. I fully understand the impact this game, and others like it, can have on a fan. I would love to experience that exact same game from the perspective of the pitcher that threw it.

I would be David Freese in game 6 of the 2011 World Series.

A player has never had two moments in one game that equal his fantastic performance in that game.

Home town kid doing the most amazing things on the biggest stage of them all. You couldn't write that story and make it believable, yet it happened in real life.

David Freese will be a hero for the rest of his life, for that one game.

I'd be Matt Nokes on May 16th, 1993. I'd hit two home runs in the game. My team would lose to the World Champion Blue Jays 12-6 but I would leave an impression on a kid who went to his first game at Yankee Stadium that day. A kid who just moved mid school year. A kid who became a Yankee fan for life that day.

I know I know, just what the world needed another Yankee fan....

Thanks for the contest.

I'd be Ricky Henderson on the day he broke Lou Brock's steals record. Absolutely am in love with Ricky and with his 'swagger' and his speech after stealing the base, it would be a moment I would want to live.

Otherwise, I'd be Karl Rhodes when he hit 4 HR's vs. Cincy.

Thanks for the contest !

Is be Jackie Robinson in his debut. I'd like to experience that ridicule and degradation, to have a firm grasp on what it was really like.

Don Mattingly, Game 1 of the '95 Division Series, Yankee Stadium. Would be his only playoffs and it was insane. I was at the game and when he first emerged on the field to warm up the place went nuts. It was an unbelievable experience to watch as a fan and I can imagine how he felt. He stopped to acknowledge the crowd and you could tell he was feeling it. Had a hell of a series too and that game was awesome. Lead changes, Griffey with a massive bomb off the RC Cola sign, and ultimately a Yankee win for Donnie Ballgame.

I watched that whole game, live.

Kirk Gibson with his 1988 World Series Game 1 Game winning walk-off. The moment was amazing, and I'm a fan of the fist-pump.

Thanks for the contest.

Can you remember the most "fun" you had in your job? As a 6th grade teacher, I can remember many, many fun times. I believe I am a little different, since I have one of those jobs that is so much fun EVERY day! Yes, you heard right: I am a teacher and I have fun everyday! That is very important to me. So when I am posed with a question like the OP presented, I immediately hearken back to one day, one player, and one moment that exemplifies "fun" in it's greatest sense for an athlete. I wont bore you with the specifics and details of the game, because I honestly believe that it was a drastically different emotion if you lived in the Pacific Northwest, and were following the Mariners at the time. But to be Ken Griffey, Jr. on October 8, 1995, would be the ultimate culmination of my childhood sporting dreams. It's really what "it's" all about!
I submit to you: The Double:
