Today's profile is up at http://therion.today.com. It features an amazing pitcher that couldn't buy a win to save his life. Even though he won ROY honors he is remembered for a completely different event.

Today I introduce you to Jon Matlack.

Clemente was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. Do you write to most of the living players you blog about?

Do an ebay search for "Clemente auto" and you will almost always find a picture of Clemente and Matlack that is signed by Matlack.

Like I said in the article, he had a pretty good career but he'll always be known for something that was really more coincidental  But such is the nature of baseball.

And 17, the only person I've featured so far that I've written to is John Paciorek. SCN reports that Matlack has a 94% success rate and it looks like the 6% that aren't reported as successes are just people waiting to get it back from recent mailings.

Always remember his high leg kick....too bad he played on a terrible Mets team.

The Matlacks were my next door neighbors when I was 7 years old back in 1976 in Pound Ridge, NY. I was only 7 at the time. Very nice guy and I still have a personalized autographed baseball. I hadn't thought about that in years until opening this thread. Too funny. Mike

That is pretty awesome :) Glad I could rouse some old memories.
