Actually, I find myself wishing current players had fewer. Having 40 RCs over 20 brands with umphundred parallels and inserts is not fun to me. Have that many cards from year 2-on, but at the moment I miss the pre-81 days. I wasn't prospecting at the time, but imagine how torqued up the collector community was over the summer of '76 waiting for Mark Fidrych's RC. I can't even remember the last player who tore things up in the bigs and had no cards. Maybe Erubiel Durazo, but that was the definition of a flash-in-the-pan. Elijah Dukes and Ian Stewart had a lot of people waiting for cards, but the bloom was off their roses by the time they got to the majors.

Oh, and pre-WWII players. There should've been Goudey-style sets in the teens and 20s. Even a "real" 1914 or 1915 Ruth rookie would be incredible.

Didn't Lincecum come up in 2007 before his 2007 Bowman Chrome Auto/RC Logo base came out? Before 07 Chrome hit shelves, all that was available to purchase of his was a Tristar auto (I think). I remember Mudcatsfan had invested in a bunch of guys in that product like Joba and Lincecum and made a killing because there was nothing else available of theirs for a while.

Dawson has 1 true Topps RC, and it's one of those quad pic turds that Topps used to do....blah.

For great players who have the worst rookie cards, I'm going to agree with chashawk for all the players that have one quad RC from Topps. If a player only has a Bowman Draft RC at least they have their own card and don't have to share it with three other players, who most likely didn't play very long. The only thing worse that I can think of is the multi-player rookie cards from the early 90's from Topps. I always hated those more than the multi-player rookie cards from the 70's.

Yep. A small example this year is Alex Avila on the Tigers. He's come up and been on fire, and he has ZERO cards period. Nothing. No TriStar, or anything.

I wish Andre Ethier had a Bowman Chrome rookie.
He had a 2003 UD Prospect Premieres autograph XRC.
And he had multitudes of 2005 rookies, including a great on-card autographed Topps Chrome.
But for some reason, his first Bowman cards were not until 2006.

I wish Walker had better rookie cards. His best is 1990 leaf or the Topps and Bowman Tiffany cards. Nothing special for sure.

Although I was able to pick up this 1990 Donruss Blue/White test issue, there were only a small handful of these made so it is cool and rare but not a real rookie card.
