So, I recently acquired the Doerr card below. It is hard to see in the scan, but it is stamped with the logo for the 24th National in Atlantic City in the bottom left hand side. As you can see from the back scan, it is numbered 1/1. The card has a glossy finish, as opposed to the matte finish on base cards in the set.

However, a search on Beckett shows that the cards were serial numbered out of 5. There was a 1/1 issued in glossy form for the Hawaii trade show, but not Atlantic City. There are others like this on ebay (different players). Anybody come across this before? I am hoping it is just Beckett being unaware that a 1/1 glossy version exists, and not that I have a bogus card.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It's a real 1/1, just not documented by Beckett. Beckett does not have every card in their database. I have two Shane Victorino 1/1's (selling them soon) that are from the National and stamped 1/1, and neither are in the Beckett database. Just remember the words that have been echoed around this site for a long time. "Beckett is not the absolute authority on cards. They do not have every card documented and never will. There are many existing, authentic cards that are not documented by Beckett."

Also, there are a couple big Doerr collectors on this site that would be very interested that card.

Good deal. I was hoping this was the case, but I have heard of worse scams. I think it is a glossy version of the /5 Altantic National giveaway. I wasn't suprised not to see it in Beckett, as I've seen plenty of holes there before, but I was hoping someone knew how the card came to be.

I've actually rebooted my Doerr collection lately, so this card's staying with me!

Thanks for you help!

I'm not 100%, but it looks to me like the Donruss Team Heroes insert with a glossy finish that someone stamped a 1/1 at the national for monetary gain.

In my opinion its a regular insert with a 1/1 stamp on the back, not a super rare subset/insert card. Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but the most realistic explenation and the most common sense answer

That's how all of the National cards were made. They were copies of actual cards with a /5 or /1 on them. The East Coast National stamp is on the card. The Victorino's that I have were the same as the actual cards except the serial number was changed. At least that's what I've seen. Any card without the "National" stamp is probably a fake. This card has it.

I miss that guy with the foil stamper who would stamp just about anything on a normal card -- be it a special olympics stamp, or just about anything, put a 1/1 on the back, and sell it for $9.99-$19.99.
