Cardinals really are a class act organization.

1.Darryl Kile - Drug Overdose
2.Josh Hancock - Died Drunk
3.Tony LaRussa - Dui Lucky he hasnt killed someone
4. Mark McGwire - Steroids
5. Tyler Bighames - Cardinals Minor Leaguer Drug Problems

You know you are about a fracking idiot. Daryl Kile died of a heart attack in his sleep. You are a piece of work. Does your Mom know what you type in the basement?? If you are going to throw out crap..at least know what you are talking about. Yes Mark McGwire is the only player in baseball to have done steroids.. He did it alone and no one else did it. The Cardinals are the only team to ever have anyone take steroids. What an idiot comment....

Its was a known fact he was a serious Cocaine and Marijuana user. Using those drugs over a period of time will cause a heart attack. Several players including Matt Morris admitted they knew he had problems. No need to sugarcoat anything. Truth hurts sometimes.
WOW..you are smart... Cocaine and weed cause narrowing of the arteries or Atherosclerosis. Where did you go to medical school???

Smoking marijuana can increase your rate by as much as 50% depending on the amount of THC.

Sucks but you can't complain about getting injured in a fight. It is an unfortunate situation but he willingly entered into a dangerous situation and got hurt b/c of it. He has no right to complain or blame others, he got injured because of his own actions. It's pathetic that every one is jumping on the "it's cueto's fault" band wagon. How can you be mad at a player who defends himself when being pushed.

I feel bad that his family may not live as comfortable as they are used to but they should blame Jason for willingly putting himself in a dangerous situation. The fact he new he was a concussion away from possible catastrophy makes his actions flat out stupid.

Bottom line if you start or jump into a fight you deserve what happens to you, I have no sympathy for him.

Agreed 100%, between bigred and the cards fans bickering back and forth accomplishing nothing but making everyone involved look childish this is best post in this thread.

You know, I just did some research on this and, surprisingly enough, not a single story or mention about Kile using cocaine popped up, not a one.

And though he did have trace amounts of marijuana in his system, I have known quite a large amount of people who smoke marijuana that have NEVER had any arterial problems and a handful of them had been smoking it since Kile was in diapers.

Way to make yourself look like an idiot though, throwing out an opinion as fact and then backing it with nothing.

Thanks for being a great member of the board and contributing so much ;)

I thought it was pretty funny to watch! :grouphug:

Sweetness, your first paragraph really doesn't make sense. I think some people need to watch the video again. "How can you be mad at a player who defends himself when being pushed." ? Because "he willingly entered into a dangerous situation." Cueto put himself into the situation, he got himself backed up against the fence. There were 10 other players backed up against that same fence, and hundreds who came before, and Cueto is the only one who has ever started kicking people in the head with his cleats.

To me, that's what it comes down to. If he pummeled Poor Jason LaRue in the head with his fists, which is what people fight with in baseball, I would say the blame lies on Jason LaRue all the way. This is more like 2 hockey players throwing down their gloves and fighting, and then one of them steps on the other guys throat with his skate. Fights happen in both sports, but nobody uses a weapon... until Cueto, that is.

Well actually it has happened in hockey, but the police filed charges against the players... here's an awesome read about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_i ... in_charges

If anyone needs to be held responsible it should be Carpenter who single-handedly rekindled the fight. It has been said that Carpenter dropped the N-bomb on Dusty Baker when everything was starting to settle down. Stay classy Chris.

Care to back up that claim with a link to where that has been "said"? Curious as I haven't seen that anywhere in any of the links I've ever seen discussing the brawl...

There is no link. My information came from a friend of Rolen. This matter was addressed through the MLB front office before the game was even over. They never wanted any formal information to come out about Carpenter's use of words. Look at all the parties involved. Look at who got fined. Everyone was fined for a specific reason, not Carp.
Cueto - susp (kicking)
Baker- susp (Manager)
LaRussa - susp (Manager)
Molina- fine (obvious)
Phillips- fine (obvious)
Springer- fine (coming onto the field while on the DL)
Carpenter- fine (????)

What did Carpenter say in this picture to get a WTF look from everybody, including Yadi, umpires, and every Red? What did he say to fan the flames of a brawl that was over?

Time to take your tin foil hat off dude. If he said that there would be no way it would have been kept private. 10 players were within earshot of Carpenter, why would they all keep quiet as some were on other teams? Sorry but this is the most retarded conspiracy I have heard of in awhile.

1. Larue wont sue because he knows it would destroy any future involvement he would like in baseball. Sports issues are kept very in house.

2. If Larue had a history of concussions, he should have given a second thought about entering an on field scuffle that you know could lead to guys getting punched, thrown, and tramppled on!

3. What Cueto did was not right but Larue would not win a lawsuit. Anyone who isnt biased would say that Larue KNOWINGLY entered himself into a dangerous situation and thus knew the ramifications of what could happen.

Comparing this to hockey is ridiculous since technically, a fight in hockey is basically allowed and a part of the game hence why after serving 5 minutes, the players are allowed back on the ice.
Also, in hockey players use only there fists. The odd instance where a guy has headbutted has resulted in a suspension.

In baseball, a fight is a free for all. There are no rules, no guidelines so arguing what Cueto SHOULD have done is stupid because there are 80 people involved so do what you have to to survive in the melee!

Also, bringing up other players issues that have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this situation is stupid.
Josh Hamiltons past drug use or Daryl Kile's heart issues have no place in this thread.
Every team has players with problems.
I imagine a good majority of those issues are kept in house as they should be.
If Carpenter dropped the N word (which although I hate him I seriously doubt), I am sure the cardinals players who would take offence with it dealt with him personally!

morgoth,

Please at least respond with a educated attempt. Name calling and cries of conspiracy, really?

Baseball players and MLB have kept steroid/Amphetamine use under lock and key for many years until one man jumped ship. Why could/would they not keep this quiet?

Something was said that got everyone fired up. Yadi has a look of disgust on his face, umpires are pointing at Carpenter, and the whole thing blows up. Like I said, you don't have to believe me, but after looking at the facts and the info that was given to me, I believe my Cardinal loyalist source.

APharis,

I was told that he used a racial slur by a Cardinal fan who also happens to be a close friend of Rolen. Please read the entire post next time.

Did you ever play "Pass the Secret"? Recounts of situations can be exaggerated and extremely inaccurate, especially when things are done/said in the heat of the moment.
If doubt Reds players would have been tight-lipped had it been said so audibly. A "friend of Rolen" could have just as well be talking out of his ass.

I suppose at his age (36), attempting a recovery and comeback similiar to Aaron Hill last year is out of the question. Taking the better part of a year off due to injury is a lot harder when you're in your mid-30's than when you're in your 20's.

Maybe he'll get into broadcasting or coaching. Seems a lot of former catchers go that route.

Your saying that Rolen, Molina, Votto, Baker, Umpires, etc... didn't hear it correctly?

If doubt Reds players would have been tight-lipped had it been said so audibly. A "friend of Rolen" could have just as well be talking out of his ass. That's your choice, but I stand by my source. As a lifelong Cardinals fan and friend of Rolen, he has no reason to make any story up about Carpenter.

Answers to your questions in bold.

No kidding. I'm completely surprised that the retirement of a career backup, journeyman catcher from a 2nd place team warrants its own thread, much less 50+ responses.

The umpire said in an interview or newspaper article that Carpenter said the N word. If I have time Ill try and find it. Really nothing more to add to this thread other than the Cardinals are the most classless organization in baseball including their drunk manager. Didnt they have more people on the Mitchell report than any other team?

Yeah, why don't you try to find that... you lying POS. I'm sure a Cy Young winning pitcher calling someone this would just fly under the radar. You are what is wrong with baseball fans today.

Sorry Cardinals fans, I think they're right.

Watch this video, put it at about 1:10. The action happens at about 1:18

http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/video/pl ... 6&c_id=cin

I had trouble finding Carp at first, because he has a jacket on over his jersey... but you can see exactly where he said *something*, and it must have been pretty bad from the reactions of everybody around.

I just realized you get another great view at 3:08. Carpenter definitely says *something* directly to Dusty, and it instantly riled Dusty up. I'm not saying it was the N word, but it was definitely something more insulting that a yo momma joke.

Ok, comparing someone keeping a racial slur uttered by an opposing team's player a secret too players keeping a secret that A: Is against the law and B: might lose them their jobs is pretty stupid.

Its like comparing someone who kept a library book too long with someone who just robbed a bank.

There would be ZERO motivation for the Reds players to keep it a secret. What would happen if they said it? If the umps said it? I am pretty sure somebody would have phoned ESPN about it.

The head coach of OU got canned for making a racist remark after it got on ESPN.

I am sure the commissioner would put the hammer down on Carpenter very heavily if it was proven true. There is no room in the game that uses Jackie Robinson one of their main marketing tools to tolerate that language.
