Always will be this 1978 Topps Rod Carew:

He was my favorite player, even back then, and finding this one in a pack was amazing to me. This was way before the internet, so I had no idea what that year's Carew would look like. Kept opening packs looking for Carew, Garvey, and other favorites.

My pals were all crowded around as I opened the pack that day (one pack a day was how I usually got them at the corner store). A truly thrilling moment in my kidhood. :)

Do you guys remember those Denny's Upper Deck Hologram cards? I remember I would go there constantly in 1992 to eat when I was a kid and ended up collecting that set, even had the collecter's book for them.

The holograms you got for eating a grand slam. Those were great

I will never, ever forget pulling this card. I remember it booked at $5.00 at the time. Every other card I have was like 10 cents. I put it in a special spot in a binder with 9 poacket pages, the first page, center and then took a pen and wrote "$5.00" on the front of the page. Of course when I took it out it the card was indented with the $5.00 I wrote on the 9 pocket... ::facepalm::

In 1953 I pulled a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle when I was about 6 years old when I hustled some sucker for them in the pool hall. I didn't know what they were quickly lost and forgotten.

While my friends wanted it, it was the adults who kept offering $1000 + for the following card; I didn't bite and still have it.

It was the summer of '96. I was 11. I loved 1996 Ultra Series 2 so much for all the shiny inserts and the chase of gold medallion parallels. I bought 12 packs at Target one day which was a lot for me. This card was in the 7th pack out of the 12. I about lost it when I saw this card. I went to the LCS, which I rarely did back then, to see the Beckett price guide what it's value was. Being seeded at 1:720 packs, this card was super duper rare coming out of a pack. It booked for $180 when it debut in Beckett. Then by the end of the year it was up to $360. I thought I was on top of the world. Chase inserts were awesome in those days, especially paying $1.49 per pack. Ah, fond memories...

I still remember pulling this in the summer of 1989. My mom took me and my brother to the LCS to get him a set for getting all A's the previous school year. I stayed in the car since I had used up all my allowance money. They come out 5 minutes later and my mom hands me a pack of 1989 Upper Deck. I was already a Griffey fan at the time and couldn't believe I pulled it. Still have it too. Probably going to be buried with it.
