Thats hilarious and makes sense since you are from Long Island. My admiration as a kid came from him because he was "known" as the goalie that could stop Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers. See when you are born in Calgary you are raised and taught, at a young age to hate everything about Edmonton, especially the Edmonton Oilers . So thats why all us Kids liked the Islanders and especially Billy Smith because they beat the Oilers for the Stanley Cup in 83. Billy Smith was a hero around these parts for beating Edmonton, lol.

I on the other hand was taught by my dad to hate the Islanders after they came back to beat the Pens in 7 games after being down 3 games to 0 in the 1975 Playoffs.

the Sakic card is very nice though

I'll get in on the Billy Smith talk. I grew up in Vancouver, I had no reason to like Billy smith at all. But he was one of my favourites because he would chop you down if you got in his crease. So if I was goalie playing street hockey the other team knew to stay away from me... They didn't let me play goalie much. :D

I don't have a Billy Smith card but the only goalie I liked better than him in the mid 80's was:

Richard Brodeur was a great goalie as well. Even though the 1982 Stanley Cup finals was only 4 games and swept by the Islanders over Brodeur and the Canucks, that is still one of my favorite Stanley Cup Finals of all time. All 4 games could have went either way from what i remember.

Nice Bossy autos Dave (PSquared)!!!
