This cut autograph isn't Howie Morenz's though, it's his son's autograph...Howie Morenz Jr. with the "Jr." cut off. ::facepalm::
Upper deck just keeps making mistake after mistake with legendary cut autographs. I'm starting to wonder if they're even "mistakes" any more. :benson:
Thats pretty interesting. I honestly dont know what either of their autographs look like, can you post an example of the two (if you have them)?

Call me crazy, but my 09-10 The Cup Legendary cut auto of Howie Morenz just doesn't look right??
To the left are five cut autos PSA'd from multiple products, or just straight up cuts from cardboard. I thank dahabsfan for pointing these out to me. To the right is my cut auto, which I recently pulled from 09-10 The Cup.
Don't compare with size, as I zoomed in and out on each auto .... just concentrate on the letters "H", the "M", and the "Z". They pretty much look consistent on the five PSA'd ones, but off mine on the right those three letters look way off.
Maybe the guy didn't have much of a consistent auto, or maybe it's, gulp, a fake?? I know there have been issues with fakes in the past.
On the back of my card it says "You have received a trading card that includes the cut autograph of Howie Morenz. The autograph was independently authenticated by a third party authenticator." -is that new??
Thoughts?

So it appears this guy does actually have an authentic autograph of Howie Morenz. It's just not the Howie Morenz that upper deck claims it to be. I believe, and have been told, that this is the autograph of Howie Morenz Jr. The "Jr." part has been cut off!
So I'm left to wonder...Did upper deck cut it off? Or did the person who sold it to upper deck cut it off? Either way, the third party authenticator should be held to task for incorrectly authenticating this card.

If this is indeed a mistake by upper deck, it should be an embarrassing one as this auto isn't even close to a real Howie Morenz auto. If this is not a mistake, well, you already know how I feel about upper deck. In either case, upper deck believes its customers are naive at best. They think they can continue giving us crap like this and we'll just keep buying it, but not me. Hopefully others finally wake up one day and realize that if upper deck is going to put fake cut autos into their products, they are likely to insert fake, NON-game-worn memorabilia pieces into their cards, because the fact is, it's a lot harder to prove memorabilia is fake as apposed to cut autos. Why wouldn't upper deck do what's easy and cheap and insert fake memorabilia?

Here's a little food for thought...Do you suppose the reason there's no picture of Howie Morenz on that card is because upper deck knew this was Jr.'s auto, and they didn't want people to think it was actually his? I doubt it, but it's interesting to think about.
