GREATEST LIVING BALLPLAYER ??

I would have to say Al Kaline, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays would be top three in my eyes. In no particular order. As far as Modern Era Miggy is one of the best Hitters I have seen in the last 20 years.

Griffey jr. Some of the most memorable catches made in the position. Even Mays' "miracle catch" wasn't his best. Not to mention Griffey's bat. If he doesn't get injured, he hits well over 700 hrs.

Griffey defined a generation of baseball.

Those years where he was the best are simply, "The Griffey Years"

It wasn't MLB... it was MLG

For me, it's Yogi Berra.

Sent from the FCB Droid app, which means I'm probably on the crapper.

I would also put Griffey Jr in the conversation for greatest living ballplayer. He was definitely the best of his generation at least and he didn't do the drugs like others did in his era. Should be a shoe-in for first ballot in the hall of fame! Can't wait till that comes into play which I believe is in 2016?:D

Bring on the Griffey homers! He would of had blah blah blah if he stayed healthy......and Williams would of had 1000 HR's if he didn't fight in a few wars!

Griffey basically was an average ball player after the 2000 season. He only batted .300 once in that span and averaged around .260 batting average in that same span. His
lifetime average isn't even close to .300 He was clearly on pace to become the greatest ever after the 99 season, but was not "greatest ever, or even great, after those
great seasons. He played a long time which helps. He only hit 30 homers three times when he went to Cincy. They paid him all that money and the only thing he did was decline.

Junior is wildly popular with collectors, he should be, he was a model ball player, but he is not the greatest alive, not even close.

Kevin

So you're basically defining Griffey's career on his last 10 years and not his first 12 where he WAS the best player in baseball.

I mean, Willie Mays' last season in baseball he hit .211 and only hit .274 over his last 8 seasons (not even close to .300), and only hit over 30 HR's once in that span. And his OPS in those last 8 years, a dismal .847. Apparently he's not one of the greatest ever either ...

Careful, a lot of people used to say the same thing about A Rod.

Would be easy to dismiss Mays on his treatment of others, his nasty disposition towards fellow ballplayers, and many other negatives that surround him ,,, but WHY would you chose Mays??

Are we talking about 'ballplayer' here or 'person who happened to also be a ballplayer'?

Yogi, with the 10 rings. End of thread.

Buy a clue. Winningest doesn't mean greatest. Yogi was a great player on great teams but so far down the line on the list of the greatest living players he can't even see the top of the list. And as far as those of you that think Koufax... just don't.::facepalm::
