But you have to admit, Mario.

Nothing REALLY all that exciting for a player collector there.
And nothing really for your money either, except basically some shiny base cards.

Yes, if you want nothing but Jumbo patches and autographs.

I can appreciate a low-budget set that doesn't look like First Edition and Opening Day. Some of those parallels, while not numbered, look pretty awesome.

Plus there are 1/1 printing plates as well as relics and autographs, just not that common and the auto checklist is nothing special.

It's about fun and 2009 UDx provided it more than most of their expensive 2009 releases so far.

As a player collector I liked this years UDX. I collect everything and not just jerseys/autos. UDX was a very nice change of pace from the low end stuff that is usually produced. Most base/inserts now are the same card with a different color border and different numbering on the back. UDX actually produced some nice looking, low cost cards. If you're looking to win the lottery buying packs of UDX it isn't going to happen, but there is certainly value to a collector in this product.

Post thanked.

Lincecum Cain Dual (Sick) Patch Auto/15 (I think were selling at least 200 in season)

I got 320 in September for one of these, when the Giants were still alive.

Upper Deck Baseball has been a solid seller for decades. A few duds yes, but tons of winners.
Definitely makes me regret selling it for 90 in late 2008.

I have plenty of cards in my collection that are just shiny, serial numbered, etc. I just see nothing all that exciting about this release whatsoever. They have beaten the X design to death on many releases, which I'm pretty sure you have addressed on your blog several times. I do agree that it makes for a cheap, fun bust if you have the itch to open something. Overall though, I really feel as though it was just a mediocre afterthought that UD threw out there to fill the need for a cheap set that could fill the retail shelves.

Rob - Crusades are an ICONIC subset/insert to myriad collectors. A comparison to UDX can in no way be made

But now your argument is sounding like the guy that says "I only like Topps so UD shouldn't make cards". UDX doesn't excite you, but you've heard 2 player collectors say they liked that product. That's fine, but it's far from the load of crap you are making it out to be just like the guys that hate all UD because they prefer Topps. It was different and low cost with nice looking cards. It doesn't have to be for everyone, as each product has it's own target audience. Some people love Triple Threads (didn't it win a FCB award last year?) but I despise it. Some people like Topps Heritage, but I'd rather bust almost any other product out there than heritage. You don't like UDX, but some do. Each product has a target audience, and if that audience enjoys it then it's a worthwhile product.

And I am glad that you like it. Good for you.

I was just stating my personal opinion. Isn't that what we all do here?
I wasn't telling you not to buy UDX.

This honestly is not directed at you in any way, but why do so many so often assume that everything posted here is intrinsically combative? Why does stating a preference or opinion equate to making an arguement?

Not one word uttered here will ever effect what I do and don't buy for my collection.

Yea, not trying to be combative here either. I guess I was just going on how you said there was nothing exciting for player collectors, when in fact there is. I'm perfectly fine with you not liking it, but just don't understand why so many people dismiss an entire brand/product/whatever as garbage/unexciting/whatever because they personally don't see the value. I guess I fall into the part of the problem category too since I will take any chance I can to talk down on Triple Threads, so I'll shut up now. 8-)

Was UD worth buying when they could use logos? I can't remember the last great baseball product that
UD has put out.

What's the point in slabbing that card? It scans all retarded.

yeah, i need a CCD scanner

anyway, I think that nice cards that you want protected should be protected properly. This is the best way I know of to protect it.

The 9 grade definitely helps too, as it's in better shape than 90% of the cards from that series.

I don't know why I thought you had one, Chris.

Nice scan. Were all of the cards in your bucket scanned with that? I'm interested in seeing how it does on regular cards as well as refractors that aren't slabbed.

I have to rescan my whole collection at some point. Most of them were scanned on an all-in-one with a CIS element.

It just seems to pick up detail a lot better while also filtering out a lot of dust/imperfections.
Dark colors seem to scan a lot better, and it makes the sticker autos look silver/white instead of blue.
