Posted tonight on Beckett.com: Heritage Gallery

I am now excited for Heritage because they apparently updated the checklist to include a RC of Lawrie. It may not be an SP, but nonetheless, it will entice me to break some now. I already was considering chasing some floating heads rookies, so even more to see. Anybody else looking forward to Heritage?

Some observations:

1) It's funny, topps is now posting a lot of new cards with new photos. The Olbermann sheet that they showed was
pretty boring and used the same old shots they have used in the past.

2) They are still using the same old photos. That Cano pose is old and Verlander in front of palm trees goes back to
his rookie cards. Longoria must duck the camera man, cause it appears he has only let cameras talk one photo
of him since he has been in the majors.

3) How can you show heritage and not include on high end photo? Maybe there won't be any high end?

4) Heritage is a cash cow for topps, super low production costs and plenty of collectors wanting to buy it. Over the
years they have stripped it down to bare bones, reducing the autograph set a bunch of no-namers. They were
ever so cheap to take the gum out cause that was costing too much money.
5) In the past topps has issued redemptions for some very nice on card heritage autographs, but have then just
replaced them with sticker autos from old products after a 12+ month long wait.
6) If you are thinking of building this set, you are missing NOTHING by waiting on buying wax and picking up signles
of a complete set later on. There is NO value in wax boxes.

Kevin is right. You can easily pick up a complete set with SPs for under $200 if you are patient. If you want the "fun of the chase" then buy a couple of boxes to get close to the base set and then track down the singles on eBay. You'll spend $300+, plus have a bit more entertainment value.

However, I will say that my greatest luck was with the 2010 ('61) Heritage as I twice hit boxes with all SSPs and cleared around $400 from each box, so maybe you should disregard what I just wrote.

Does anyone have the most up to date checklist? I found one on sportscardsradio.com, but it's filled with "+More TBA+"

Wonder if Albert Belle will make an appearance or if Topps has run out of autographed stickers ::facepalm::

George is right: Kevin is pretty much spot-on with his analysis of this. It's not enough to deter me from buying a few boxes and piecing the set together, but if I was smart, I would just pick up a set down the road. That said, I make fairly poor decisions when it comes to buying cards, so hopefully out there is going to want the Erik Bedard jersey cards I pull from my boxes. Plus it's a fun product to open, so that takes away the sting of not pulling a Koufax, Mays or Aaron auto a little bit.

Couple years ago Kevin's views were much different.
He argued where else can you get an on card auto for $3/pack?
Oh how the times have changed.

Oh how the times have changed.

The odds were 1:152 packs in 2001. There were also no groups or short prints, the odds of pulling an on card autograph
of Willie Mays was the same as Joe Mays. Today autograph odds in heritage are around one per case and it looks
from early pictures that Koufax will not have the same number of autographs as the other players and even the red
ink card will be numbered to 10 instead of 63.

yes how times have changed. There is NO value in these boxes and when a case gets you only 1-2 autographs, and that
from a suspect list of guys, then the product just isn't worth buying as wax. I have been heavily collecting heritage for 11
years now. They have also taken out all the stars from the chrome parallel set, which further takes away value.

I am in contact with my guy at topps and I hope to get a complete checklist from him soon, maybe they will make
some changes at the last second.

Thanks
Kevin

Yeah I don't really know how people on here don't know Kevin is one of the biggest heritage collectors out there.

The criticism of the product is spot on. Topps can get huge value into their Topps Chrome line but can't even get autos from "good" players into their heritage set. Do we really want our case hit auto to be some guy who played 1 ML game? Topps must think thats funny.

Nail on the head

I still buy complete sets, but buying boxes is the biggest ripoff in the hobby

Can you even build a complete set from one case including all high numbers?

no, BUT, you have a ton to trade and/or sell. You can figure that all your SP's, roughly 8 per box, all your inserts,
about 8 a box, chromes and any variations, will all be movable, which is pretty good. I have done very well in the
past with trades, one of the good points of heritage. Maybe I am spoiled, but I know how much more value you
can get from other products and it makes heritage look weak.

There are usually a fair amount of traders here on all topps products, hit that forum up once the product hits.

I have been doing this set for years and can usually get by with about 4 boxes a blaster and random packs. Between that and trading with people like Kevin I can usually complete the set. The Jackie Robinson SP set kind of ticked me off last year but oh well. Its heritage what can you expect?

Think I am going to start out with 4 hobby boxes.

My prediction is there will be some type of varation of the players picture in the lower right corner of the cards. Either a varation from the normal card or different player all together.
