I have a question about printing off photos of baseball (players and action shots and items) Mostly 4"by 6"s
Since I'm nowhere near a pro with photos, I have a few questions.
I have about 100+ random photos that I'd like to print off (most likely at a local CVS or Walgreens)
Now, which type of finish do you like? (Glossy, Matte, or Semi-Glossy)
I personally am leaning towards Matte/Semi due to the fingerprint factor. However, I heard from someone that the Semi-glossy finish, the quality isn't as great as Matte because the Matte finish is actually "processed" while the Semi is just printed. Concur or dispute?

If I have a photo that is a relative small size, will the photo kiosk automatically blow up the photo to fit the 4 by 6 or will it keep it small with the good quality?
If these photos turn out good, I might try and get a few signed. Which surface holds the sharpie signature best?

Any other advice for a novice?

Are these photos that you've downloaded from the 'net? If so, you will most likely have copyright issues.

Which is why I haven't answered this thread. A great place for MiLB photos is Future Star Photos. 8x10s at a very reasonable price and high quality.

That is really why I answered. To let him know it is illegal and that there are great sites to get photos from at a great price.

:)

Its a preference, and I prefer glossy, but thats just me. Its cheap enough that you can play around with both and pick which you like best. The kiosks will blow up the small pictures to fit the 4x6. If you're working with a physical print you can scan it in and just leave white borders on the scan zone and cut it yourself later. If those are digital images, you may want to use a photo editing software to add any necessary border to create an actual 4x6 image yourself and cut it later after you pick it up. I assume these pictures are yours and you own the rights to them? Just something to be prepared to answer

I am aware of the legality

Actually, half of these files aren't even photos, they are like random graphics baseball related. (logos and stuff)
I have photos which I took but the quality is "average" so I'm not going to expect to much out of them

And yes, futurestar photos is great. I've already gotten a few from them

Something like this: If I were to crop it smaller, would it turn out decent on a 4 by 6?
Took it with a regular dig camera 5 MP. Only camera I have

You should have no problem cropping the original down for a 4x6.

I printed these pictures at the local grocery store and went with the gloss. All 3 of these are 8x10s I haven't had any trouble with autographs. The pictures look nicer in person then they do in the scan.

You can crop pictures down alot to print as 4x6s. I personally prefer the matte finish. The matte finish will be better for autographs. Glossy photos can give you some problems if it's cold or there is really high humidity. They won't take sharpie very well in those situations. The chances of getting streaky signatures is much higher on glossy prints. Matte takes sharpie perfectly every time so long as you have a good sharpie.

Matte finish. Matte finish looks better and it always takes an autograph perfectly.
