I have been looking for a nice Whitey Ford RC for quite some time and found an excellent example at a local shop.

It's in a PRO Grading holder and labeled a 6, really a very nice card. Asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said $600.00 So is PRO Grading not to be trusted? This was the first time I visited the shop, never knew it was in my local area. After doing some googling I may have my own answer but I'd like to hear this community's experience with the grading service as well.

Thanks!

Pay the extra cash for a legit company and a piece of mind. I would bet its altered in some way.

My understanding is that PRO started out as a legitimate attempt to enter the card grading business, but they weren't making the money they had hoped for and turned into a rent-a-grade company. This culminated in offering a service for mere deceptively slabbing cards as authentic with a PRO 10 grade. The sceme was to take in unsuspecting buyers who didn't realize they were purchasing a card that had not been graded for condition.

When I first got back into the hobby, I bought two PRO slabs in Gem Mint condition. Both came back trimmed when I sent to PSA. One was a 1959 Topps Mantle that I paid about $800, and the other was an 1992-93 Upper Deck Shaq rookie. They were the last two PRO slabs I have bought.
