Hi all,
Finally completed a little autograph project I have been working on for a couple years.
The story first:
My mom used to be a big fan of the Giants back in the 50's-early 60's when she lived in San Francisco. Her favorite player was Willie Mays and she used to tell about the games she attended at Candlestick Park.
Shortly after she passed away in 1998, I found an envelope with my name on it. Inside were some Giants baseball cards and a ticket stub from a game at the Stick on September 8, 1961 that she attended.
I did a little research and found that the Giants beat the Dodgers on that day, 7-3. A couple years ago, I decided to see how many of the Giants who played that day I could get autographs of.
I already had autos of Mays and Cepeda and figured that I would write to some of the still living ones and try to get ttm autos of them. The deceased players I would search for on ebay and other sites. I tried to get as many as possible on 1961 Topps cards to commemorate the specific year.
Today, the final piece arrived! So, without further ado, here they are:
The Stub that started it all
Manager Alvin Dark (Ebay)
Mike McCormick, Pitcher-pitched a complete game, 9 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 6 K's (TTM)
Ed Bailey, Catcher - 0 for 3, with a walk (Ebay)
Orlando Cepeda, First Base - 1 for 4, with a Home Run (Ebay)
Joey Amalfitano, Second Base - 2 for 3, with a double and triple, 3 runs scored (TTM)
Jose Pagan, Shortstop - 1 for 4 (Ebay)
Jim Davenport, Third Base - 2 for 3, 3 RBI, 1 Home Run, 2 runs scored (TTM)
Harvey Kuenn, Left Field - 1 for 2, 2 walks (Ebay)
Willie Mays, Center Field - 1 for 3, with a Home Run, 2 RBI, 1 run scored (LCS)
Felipe Alou, Right Field - 1 for 4, with 1 RBI (Ebay)
Might try to upgrade the Bailey as the auto is pretty faded.
