I was reading the threads here about prospects, and rankings. It seems every year the Royals have guys at the top.

Does anyone one else wonder about the Royals prospects? They have had sooo many top guys in recent years. With basically only Butler and Grienke working out. I keep thinking this is the year the Royals put it together, and then they show nothing in the pros.

Which got me thinking. Is there something about the stadiums or teams the Royals have in the minors that make guys possibly seem better than they might actually be? Or is it the coaching on the major league level that stunts the growth of their prospects?

Its because they always draft early due to their poor record at the end of the year. That's why the Rays have guys like Jeff Niemann, Jeremy Hellickson, Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings, Wade Davis, David Price, etc.......

Yeah, that's what I'm saying though. Look at all the guys that have worked out for the Rays compared to the guys the Royals have had.

The Royals have a better farm system now than they ever have. Having three top 10 or top 15 guys, and probably 5 in the top 25 is absolutely nuts.

They have had some big names (Alex Gordon) but right now they have 5 different guys in the Minors who look like they could be perennial all stars.

Just a minor quibble but the Royals had George Brett, Willie Wilson, Frank White, Al Cowens, Darrel Porter, Dennis Leonard and Paul Splittorff all come from their system in the early to mid 70's. They were loaded and ruled the AL West for several years. I know that was a long time ago but the Royals weren't always a laughing stock.

But yes, the Royal's system is in great shape.

Wilmington is a terrible hitter's park and NW Arkansas is a great hitter's park.

This is a big reason Wil Myers jumped up so many lists so quickly...he was hitting .390 in Wilmington for awhile. Would have been impressive anywhere, but especially in a park that isn't good for hitters.

Wade Davis, Jeremy Hellickson, and Desmond Jennings being drafted by the Rays had next to nothing to do with them having a bad record. Davis(3rd round), Jennings(8th round), and Hellickson(4th round) were taken because of scouting and that type of thing. The best farm systems usually have at least a few guys who weren't 1st round picks, and the Rays are a great example. Add Matt Moore to that list as well.
