I have been pondering this for a while. For example, buy autos of a player on a not so great, and low budget team that is in his last year of his contract hoping that in the offseason he signs with a better team, that generally its players sell for more like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals and so on. (Example: Adrian Gonzalez)

Thoughts?

I think that has alot of potential for money making but my question is how did that system work for example Jason Bay's autos once he went to the Sox? did they increase alot?

I believe they were in the $15-20 range pre-Sox, then went up around $30+

I also like to prospect guys that have had the knack in the past and are just "overlooked producers" who could bust out and do something great at any moment. Guys like Zimmerman, Markakis, Sizemore, etc.

Crawford, Carl.

TTT Auto was at $20 in December. Speculation on the move to New York next summer and stuff is increasing up.

Teixeira, Mark.

Bought 2001 SPX AU lot of 4 for $245. Signed with the Yankees, sold for $150 per.

Halladay, Roy.

1997 Bowman Chrome was what, $5? Now what is it at?

Gonzalez, Adrian. 2000 BDP Autograph. Next.
Fielder, Prince. 2006 BC and his 2005 AU releases. Next.
etc.

I have made a good amount doing just this.

Further down the road, I could see Carlos Pena on this same pace, unless the Rays start to commit.

Adrian's stuff starting moving upwards at mid-season last year. His best rookie autos are NOT cheap and are tough to track down honestly. His situation is a good one, but I don't think you would be able to capitialize on him as easily as others.

We had a similar discussion a month ago here:

Be sure to read any and all of topnotchsy's posts for good examples and ideas of doing this.

It goes by many names, post hype sleepers, ML-specting, etc, but its one of the safesty ways to 'invest' in rookie cards.

Halladay's 97 Bowman Auto is going for twice what it did 18 months ago, and about 6 times what it went for 3 years ago.

We knew he was good 3 years ago, we knew he was GREAT 18 months ago. Getting the national exposure of being the big Free Agent object of desire of every team had as much to do with his price increase as moving from Toronto to Philly.

Great way to make $$$ off a guy who has now proven he can do it, just need a big market or a monster year to drive his prices up.

My '10 guesses are Qualls and Peavy, although Peavy's prices were already starting to go back up in the offseason.

Prince is a good one to watch. And since the contract negotiations look like they'll be public, you will know if it's not gonna happen, can buy as it's not happening, maybe even when he's traded to a fringe play-off team making a desperate run (Rangers or something), as prices may not rise. Then, when he winds up in Boston, NY, or LA/SF, you can make a killing on all that 2005 auto'd crap and his 2002 PP auto.
