I only started collecting again in 2006 so I am not very familiar with Prime Cuts except for the fact that I have seen some excellent Veterans/Legends auto/GU cards of theirs.

What is the market's feelings on their prospect cards? I've never heard much about them in that area before until now. Are they taken seriously or are they a distant 4th or worse in the eyes of prospectors?

Lots of chipping and fuzzy corners in prime cuts...I pulled an encased Buster Posey with 4 fuzzy corners.

They can be had for cheap though.

Are you saying some came in cases in the pack? I'm just not familiar enough with the product. Sounds like they won't be grading well. But what about normal prospect value? Do people even bother collecting their guy in this product?

I'd never paid much attention to them, but thought I might buy a little stuff since the prices are good.

My pockets are pretty shallow and I can only afford a few boxes of wax a year. Being a big collecter of the older HOF and retired guys, I usually go after products with them in it. With that being said, I got a box of Prime Cuts this year and pulled an encased Posey auto. You can imagine my disappointment....
I don't think the prospects belong in there.....at least not as the box hit. Just my 2 cents.......I'm still bummed out....

Donruss went overboard with their prospect autos this year but I still think the Prime Cuts prospect auto/memorabilia rookies (Porcello, Beckham, Posey etc) will do well down the road (way down the road).

90% of the checklist is overproduced in other sets, but there are a couple guys worth buying at current prices.

I have already gotten 12+ copies of one player, who isn't in any other set as a live card. Worst case, he is in two sets for the year, with both being limited.

But yes, the conditions aren't so hot this year, across the entire product. I still have yet to figure out how an encased card can be just as bad as a packed out copy.

I find this all interesting. I actually just bought a 1/1 non-auto of a player and was surprised that I got it for such a decent price. I didn't know if I stumbled across something before others or people just don't care about the prospect part of the product.

I think people aren't realizing how some guys are very limited, so they will wise up later on, when players get hot.

Which non-auto 1/1 did you pick up?

I'll reveal it when it is at least shipped...:) I've already paid for it, but you never know if someone will try to talk a seller out of an original deal.

Well, can you tell me via PM?

I was outbid on a non-auto 1/1, so I am curious if that was the one.

The rarest and most expensive rookies to pull of Donruss guys. So under priced right now

I have still been trying to figure out Print Runs for the Leaf Limited and Contenders Auto's. Per the sell sheet it says numbered to 99 or less (last page) http://www.magazine-exchange.com/info/p ... %20PIS.pdf

If this is true, then there are some decent deals to be had.

They are just inserts though look at laporta and wieters school ties pricing, and those are just 50 made.

Good point, however, I dont think you can directly compare the two. The Leaf Limited's are a separate name from their Prime Cuts brothers [whereas the School Ties are just a subset of Elite], and [in my eyes anyway] gives them more validity as a "true" RC auto, similar to the Sterling and Chrome, and less like the Elite School Colors Auto.

I love these cards, but I just havn't gotten around to picking em up. It will be a mistake if I don't. I'm too busy with these USA cards.

Just an FYI-

The Leaf Limited and Contenders autos from Prime Cuts do not have any prefix on the back in terms of card #'s. They have a normal set # (ex. "7"), so they might not be considered inserts in the long run.
