BVG 5 would be much easier than PSA 5.
BVG is almost BCCG compared to PSA on sales.

Between BGS and PSA, I agree less than 8.5 looks bad. But when it comes to protection, when done right, I have to pick BGS. but when gone wrong, it can look like this:

I disagree about PSA grading being more lenient. On modern card stock, absolutely (refractor lines and autos namely), but on vintage card stock, I always send my PSA 9s and 8.5s to BGS for the 9.5. I'm 100% with BGS for 9.5s.

Agreed. PSA had a reputation a few years back of being softer but they have tightened the reins. BGS was once tough but cards always come back with nice grades. A card with 3x9.5 and one 9 will be a BGS 9.5; send the same card in the 9.5 holder to PSA for a crossover to PSA 10 and it will not happen. BGS 9.5s should be reserved for cards having 9.5 or 10 attributes.

PSA positives- I love the classic look of the PSA holder, thinner case makes storage easier. I don't know what people do to their cards where they dont think the PSA case is rigid enough. Do you people play frisbee with them? Use them as skeet?

PSA negatives - they don't label cards correctly. Back when David Carr was the #1 pick of my Texans I bought what was labeled on eBay as a 2002 Topps Chrome Black Refractor rookie of him, and i submitted it to PSA as such. They put on the label Topps Chrome Black Refractor. It was years later that I found out there was no such thing as a Black Refractor, and the card I had was the regular refractor which, that year, had a black border and was #/100. Also don't like that the grade is a mystery since they dont list subgrades. I also don't like having to join the collectors club to get cards graded. I don't want all of those books and junk, just cards graded

Beckett positives- labeled correctly, don't have to join a club, group submissions like FCB's make it very affordable, subgrades listed

Beckett negatives - holders too thick, silver and gold flips do not scan well at all, don't like that they grade the autograph and place the grade as prominently as the card grade


Overall i like PSA for pre-2000 stuff and BGS for post-2000 stuff. Nothing beats a 52 Topps or other vintage card in a PSA holder
