After reading this article and hearing more about how he wants to retire with a team, and after negotiating that 10 year personal services contract succeeding the 10 year player contract, I can completely understand his decision making process. I also believe that because of the new contract that when he is elected into the hall of fame that he will go in as an Angel, not a Cardinal. It really sounds like he wants to stay with the team that most wants him, and the Angels obviously offered him what he wanted.

Yeah the Angels are in for now but what if he sucks by year 6 and the Yankees need a DH to
make a late season push to the playoffs he will be gone and forgotten....
Lets be real here there is no way he is going to be one of the best players in Baseball in 6 years.
If I was the Cardinals I wouldn't have offered much more then 5 years either. The Angels are
crazy its a pitchers park and not a lot of bats protecting him.

Why would you have the Cardinals bird on your back?

Deidre, the Cardinals logo is on the front..

Oh, here's something else. God doesn't control everyone, but believe what you want to believe. And I'm actually not bitter at all, I'm tired of Cardinals fans freaking out about Albert being gone, and being so upset with it. I was perfectly fine the day he signed, and I still am. There's nothing you can do about it, he's gone. The team's still in good shape.

I guess this article fixed it for her to make her look less stupid

"It just didn't work out," Deidre Pujols said. "The offers that people have seen on television, I'm going to tell you what .... had that offer been the one that was given to us, with guarantee, we would have a bird on the bat. ...
I listened to about 10 minutes of the interview. That article seems to have taken what she said about the organization and what happened and removed what she her statement about religion and God. There was a whole lot in the interview about God and that likely turned some people off.. Personally I thought it was a bit much for a radio interview, though my guess is that it was a Christian station (based on what I heard) so I understand why it was that way.

Good for her. If people are going to praise god when things go well, why shouldn't they be able to be mad at him when things don't go their way? I'm sure he can handle it.

Complaining about 130 million dollars is another story.

I bet that would have something to do with being given a "free will".

I believe the interview was done on a christian radio station, actually one that the Pujols family helped bankroll so I'm sure their was a lot about what God has done for them included in the discussion.

I have no problem with her mentioning God, but the way she insinuates that God forced them to go to Los Angeles is just.. stupid. The Pujols family is in control of their life, they were in the driver's seat. I wouldn't rely on someone else making a $250M decision for me.

::facepalm::

I both live in St. Louis and listen to the radio station (99.1 JoyFM).

The station is, in fact, a Christian radio station. Deidre is friends with the host of the show she was interviewed on (Sandi of Greg and Sandi). Albert and Deidre are frequent attenders of JoyFM events; I sat three rows in front of Albert at a JoyFM sponsored concert in 2008. I have talked with Sandi before.

Deidre did not randomly bring up her beliefs--the station is Christian. Obviously, the interview would reference Christianity because it was done on a Christian radio station.

Just to clear that up.

As far as the actual content of the interview, I just wish the Pujols family would give a clear response as to why they chose to go to Los Angeles. All of the answers seem vague and/or slightly differing. I cannot question Deidre's beliefs about God and faith because a) I am not her and b) I am not God, but I can question Albert's motives for signing with the team. In my own personal opinion, I think Pujols left completely for the money, and he is trying to demonize the Cardinals organization by making it look like the organization "lowballed" him. I just wish he would say, "The Angels gave me a better offer."

Mad at God. 5 years $130m ($26 MILLION a year) is an insult.

Are you serious, bro?

I kind of think that it is. The Cardinals knew that Pujols would NEVER sign that deal. It's a slap in the face to Pujols to even offer it, because the Cardinals brass knew better.

The St. Louis media is trying to make Deidra out to be Yoko, but I don't see it that way. She's just defending Albert when people are bashing him, which is understandable. BUT I do think she's kind of a bitch.

I'm not either Mack. Just sad more than anything for what it changes historically for the Cardinls franchise. That's what's most important to me concerning all of this. I hate that it changes everything that could have been down the road.

I don't fault Pujols, and I don't fault the Cardinals brass either. It is what it is. Couldn't come to an agreement.

I will say though, that from what I have heard from all of this, if I WERE to pick who I think screwed this all up, I'd have to pick the DeWitt family. I just don't EVER trust them to do anything correctly. I don't trust Bill DeWitt Jr to save my life.

He just looks like a ****** ball.

Pujols wanted to get paid more then Ryan Howard for his last
Big pay day. You can't blame him for doing what most elite top tier guys do when it comes to negotiating- Get what your worth.

Can't blame Pujols.

But blame Ryan Howard's agent & the owner who paid it.

But deidra pujols is whacked. She also is the one
Who tells Alber not to sign autographs.
I met a guy at spring training who had a daughter with
Downs syndrome. He said one of Pujols' handlers / posse members
Said she gets in his ear bout signing.

Did she say that she was for the first time proud of her country when the Angels came through with that offer?
