this maybe a newbie question but, there are only 300 auto'd but why are some of the autos numbered passed 300.
is it the first 300, or random 300 out of the 799.
thanks for the info.

Though there are a lot of fakes, it wasn't the first 300 that were signed, they are skip numbered.

yep I heard some of the graded slab was also fake due to the card passing the authentic tab but the Auto was fake.

Welcome to the site. As mentioned by others the one's auto'd were not necessarily the first 300. As a matter of fact the estimates were that only around 60-80 were redeemed and the rest are counterfeit (despite saying "Authentic Auto" on the front.)

For the full story read this, hope it's helpful:

Bumping this so those who need will see it. I would appreciate if people could read the article and rate it as helpful so that hopefully the word gets out there.

The best thing about the article topnotch, is that on the right it features auctions with the pujols legacy rc auto, and clearly the first 2 are completely 100% fake and shows a BGS Graded one that appears to be very real.....but there is a big difference.

In the BGS auction, he's also selling a PSA graded one with it. Isn't that one of the fakes too?

You are correct, that one looks fake to me as well.....this is probably going to be the ONE pujols RC AUTO that I do not get for the reason of fakes....I am going after the complete run of Albert Pujols mainstream (Topps, Upper Deck, Fleer, Donruss) 2001 RC Cards all BGS/PSA 9 or better.......but the Fleer Legacy AUTO may not be part of it.

I wish eBay would have a function that makes related articles prominent in listings. It's ridiculous that that information is on eBay, and yet people will bid on the fake ones because they do not know to find the article.

There is one seller who is selling a real one with a fake one (wants the person to see the difference and is basically "throwing in" the fake one if you pay his price on the real one.)

The real ones are usually pretty easy to spot, and many people know the difference (the fakes get $200's on eBay, a real sold for $500+ recently.)

Yeah that fakes are getting pretty bad in general.....and this is only one pujols example....the bowman originals and the chrome/finest alterations are getting pretty prominent as well, but most of those are found out through grading.

Patches in general are just scary to buy second hand anymore.....you just never know.

I am really a big fan of the graded material now, more so with the really high end stuff and patches. Plus, I just get sick and tired of buying cards described as mint (that is just a word everyone uses now in their ebay auction) and getting it in with dinged corners etc. And the increasing "All Sales are Final" refund stances more and more ebay sellers are taking is discouraging.

ok so to be clear. The auto on the left bottom usually are real? And the Auto on the center are fake? If JSA don't say is real than even the graded PSA and BGS are likely to be fake auto?

I bought the last real one up and I thought I got a great deal on it. Before the counterfeits and the economy these were pushing $1,000 if not beyond. The only other real one I;ve seen in the past year is the one with an insane BIN on eBay. I know another guy who has two with no intentions of ever selling. This could be one of Albert's rarest RC autos. Mine's en route to BGS to be graded and/or authenticated.

From everything I have seen and heard, Pujols only signed these on the bottom toward the left. Initially it was pretty clear which were fakes since the auto's at the center of the card were awful forgeries. Recently I have seen one or two where the auto was near the bottom but seemed just a tad off which makes me wonder if a few of the unsigned were either gotten signed by Pujols later, or the forgers just got a bit better. Every now and then one pops up on eBay that looks great, and for me the one's that are legit jump out and are pretty much obvious.

Topnotch: I have thought about this idea before, but why not make have a recurring "auction" which includes your guide? When I was in the market for a Pujols Auto, I noticed your article and stayed away from the Legacy's. The "auction" idea would only cost $0.15, as long as you put a high enough starting bid on it where no one bids and you wont have any other fees.

Those first two don't look real, plus they are #'d much higher than any real copy I've ever seen. Not sure about the last one, but if I were buying I wouldn't take the chance. Here's mine and two I know are real:

They are almost identical and don't match any of the ones you posted.
