You need to neg him.

Why is the guy being an ass to you when he was the one that messed up? Also did you pay with paypal? If so why in the heck is this guy sending you a check for a refund. This guy deserves a negative. Just dont be rude with your comment.

If there was a check sent as a refund, one could, theoretically, file a chargeback as well.

The value of the card is almost 100% in the value of the holder.

The seller is a donkey for shipping in a PWE. If possible, see if you can mail a kick in the crotch via a PWE.

It would probably get damaged.

I'd leave a neg with something like this:

"Sent BGS in PWE, got broke, rude seller, got $ back"

Not sure if it will be fit, but something like that would communicate the issue.

I gave the guy a few options:

1. Send me a replacement since he had an identical card for auction at that time.
2. Send a partial refund my PayPal payment of the $3.00 S/H fee

Instead, he goes ahead and sends me a personal check (which takes over a week to arrive). With it is a nice handwritten note. Like I really needed him to tell me not to bid on his auctions anymore.

Anyway, I'm glad I finally got the refund. I just hope his check doesn't bounce. I will have to wait for it to clear before leaving feedback. I'm not sure yet whether I should give him a negative or not, after all he did issue me a full refund.

Because of the note, I'd neg him while leaving the feedback, "you get your wish. Will not buy from again."

because of the full refund, id leave positive

Seriously? Would you say that this was a positive experience?

Jeez.

you got a free card out of it. sure the seller seems like a ****** (obvious with the note he sent) but personally i dont think thats enough to neg him considering his action (of sending the full refund). the way i think of it is it couldve been worse with a drawn out paypal dispute or even no money back at all

I don't mind cards in pwe's but never a graded card or a high dollar card.Thats definitley just asking for trouble.Any time you have a card that is in a holder like that where the condition of the holder is just as important as the card...you have to ship to protect not only the card but the holder.A bubble mailer is the only way to go here.

I'd neg him just for the way he shipped it and I would also leave a hint about the message he sent to you with the refund.

In my mind...there is no way you can do anything but leave a neg in this situation.

I know it totally sucks that the guy sent a slab in a PWE, that's unheard of, but... like somebody said, those slabs are stout and it would really take a lot to break one like that. I'm not sure a bubble mailer would have really helped. Surely I can't be the only one who has received a card that was damaged in shipping despite being shipped in a bubble mailer...

It is amazing that it stayed in a PWE after receiving that damage! The seller is a total tool. I'm just sayin' I don't think a bubble mailer would have saved the slab.

If it was in a bubble mailer it probably would have been thick enough to avoid the sorting machine that caused the damage.

Obviously it was dropped several times and something heavy may have been put on it.While a plain white envelope offers no protection...a bubble mailer has the little bubbles surrounding the inside contents so they would have cushioned any blow.I am not sure you can say it wouldn't have helped.

Here's what I'm saying. If you took a hammer and applied enough force to do the damage we see on the slab... then put a layer of bubble mailer over the slab, and hit it with the same hammer using the same force, your slab will sustain similar damage.

The point about it not going through the sorting machine is a good one. Wonder if that's what happened to this card?

The layer of bubbles didn't protect my card. It takes a lot of impact force or whatever to break a BGS slab. I don't think the bubbles would have saved the slab.

I am not sure what your experience with buying BGS graded cards is? But I have NEVER had a BGS slab (60 plus) received in a bubble mailer broken. My guess is the majority of the people on these boards would say the same thing. I would go as far as saying 98% of the BGS slabs sent via bubble mailer NEVER received any damage. So it is clear to me that the fact it was sent in a plain white envelope had EVERYTHING to do with the slab breaking.

Let's not overlook the fact that this was only a $4 transaction. At what dollar value does this moron seller decide to upgrade his shipping methods? Also, at what dollar value does the seller decide not to give a refund?

Negative all the way.

Wow. Neg that toolbag.

Never send anything thicker than three base cards PWE or this will happen. Alternatively, anything with a hollow in it will get destroyed by the sorting machines. GU/trapped auto/encapsulated holders can not withstand the pressure of the sorting rollers.

I am not sure this even went through the sorting machines because my guess is it would have weighed too much and been too thick to begin with.

Either way...you can drop a BGS holder on the cement and it will crack. And if it is dropped repeatedly and the temperature is just right...that puppy will crack like a twig.My guess is this was dropped several times.
