Hi everyone,
About a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to try my hand at putting a set (or two) together. I have my ongoing core player collections but wanted to go after a set that I thought looked nice and also had a checklist with lots of players I liked.
I quickly narrowed it down to the 1999 Upper Deck Century Legends Century Collection /100 set (focusing first on old-timers / HOF) or the 2006 and 2007 Topps 52 Debut Flashbacks Chrome Gold Refractors. I really liked both set designs and checklists but went with the latter because of the set design (1952 Topps is the epitome of classic) and smaller checklist (easier to achieve, lighter on the wallet).
For those not familiar with the set, it uses the 1952 Topps design but on chrome and the Debut Flashbacks subset features each player with the first Major League team they played with (e.g., Curt Schilling is shown in an Orioles uniform, Pedro Martinez in a Dodgers uniform). The 2006 set has 20 cards and the 2007 set has 15 cards. Each of the gold refractors is serial numbered to 52 copies.
I've made some good progress and wanted to start sharing with everyone on the boards. I am missing five from 2006 and 3 from 2007. These are pretty tough to find well-centered. The "biggest" player I am missing is Junior Griffey.
let me know what you think!
