I follow Jason Jennings, who was going to be starting in the minors this year, but he had a great spring and they put him in the bullpen. I've never followed a reliever, just 2 starters (JJ and Sabathia). Anyway, I was checking out the boxscore from the game last night, and it looks like he earned an H. After his name it says (H,1) similar to the guy who got the save (S,1).

I have been racking my brain all day and I got nothin'... what does the H mean?

it's a hold, like holding the game for a save

wow! Thanks for the quick replies... I still don't really get what Hold means, he didn't blow the lead? Why don't the subsequent pitchers who didn't blow it get an H?

A hold (abbreviated HLD or H) is awarded to a relief pitcher who:

enters the game in a save situation; that is, one of the following three conditions applies:
his team has a lead of no more than three runs, and there are at least three outs remaining
the potential tying run is either on base, at bat, or on deck
there are at least three innings remaining in the game
records at least one out;
leaves the game without his team having relinquished the lead at any point.
Note that since the hold is not an official Major League Baseball statistic, the definition above can vary. One noticeable difference is that while STATS, Inc. requires the pitcher to record at least one out for a hold, SportsTicker does not have this requirement. This can result in discrepancies in hold totals between different sources.[1]

Thanks, I was actually just reading that. Really strange stuff, at least I don't feel too stupid since it's not an official stat and is as confusing as ABC's Lost. :lol: I googled "as confusing as" to get some good examples when I ran out of words, and read that there. Made me laugh anyway...
