How many cards does it take to be officially known as a serious player collector? Just curious as to what goal for my player collection should be to make it one of the best out there. I wish I could say I was a super collector, but I do not wish to buy every card out there of for my player collection, so the number of total cards is not accumulating that fast by any means. Is there a percentage collected I should strive for? I have only seen like a couple of other collectors who collect my player and my collection is nearing one of them and is more about quality right now than quantity. Any comments from veteran player collectors are welcomed. Thanks,

Andrew

Weither you are a 'serious' player collector, or not, is a state of mind. There is no magical number or value attributed to this. I considered my self a serious Gooden collector after aquiring my first handful of cards that did not include a single auto or GU. If your serious about your player collection, then your a serious player collector. Unfortunately, and depending on the player(era), there is no right ammoung of cards, GU's, auto's, value, ect.. that can define you as a super collector either. Having said that, If you actively collect a player, and try to obtain all you can of that perticular player within your budget, I would consider you a serious collector.

I consider myself a team collector, but I do focus on some specific guys from those teams that I player collect (mainly football though).

I have over 450 different cards of Vinny Testaverde and maybe 75-100 cards of Sinorice Moss, both of which I consider my player collections. Then I have a smaller one of LaRod Stephens-Howling with 10 cards (not many made of him) and Javarris James with 30 (only in pre-draft releases right now).

Really, I think that quality matters more than quantity. Anybody can put together 50 base cards of a player, so a player collection needs something nicer in it.

I say once you get a few autos, a few game used and maybe some rookies to total 20-25 cards, you're a true player collector in my book. Even with less, I would say you'd still be recognized because you want to put the effort in, but maybe wouldn't be thought of when somebody says "Hey, who's that guy that collects ____?".

Good luck on your player collection venture, and welcome to FCB :)

It'll come to you. One day you will sitting at home looking through all the cards you own of that specific player and it will just come to you. You will be like "Wow do i ever have a lot of Patrick Kane (as an example) cards, i am one serious collector". When the time comes u will know :)

depends on what you can afford and what you think. for some poeple 20 nice cards is a serious collection, as they cant afford more, and some people 200 nice cards is considered serious. all depends on the person

How much is enough? When you don't see anything else you want to buy.

1,654 is the number. Any less, you are not a supercollector.

To me, anyone who is serious about their collecting, finds enjoyment in doing so and values the cards they acquire fits the bill. It is not about amount of cards, value of cards, percentages, etc. It's about the passion for the hobby. I've seen many small and low end collections where I'd label to the collector a "serious collector" above some larger more costly PC's. You cannot begrudge someone who does their best within the means they have, and you have to respect the passion when it's there. It's not just about the cardboard.
