I am not the smartest on the draft or the signing process. I know alot of the top picks signed, which is great. My question is when would they begin playing? Would they play the remainder of this season in a rookie ball league, or do they wait till next season?

Cool, would they go to rookie or A ball? Or does it depend on their level of play?

Other than Stras, who might go to AA or AAA right away, most guys will start in A, or the short season league as a way to get work in so they can be ready for the beginning of next year.

Most that have already signed, are already playing.

Those who signed yesterday will either start immediately or just be held out. With only two weeks left in the minor league season, it may not make sense to throw these guys out there since many haven't played in nearly two months.

Generally players will start in Rookie Ball or A-Ball, with few exceptions. For example, Rich Poythress (M's 2nd rounder) played a couple games in the Arizona League then went straight to AA.

But looking at most of the M's players who have already signed, they're playing in Rookie Ball, Lo-A or Hi-A.

Nice. I think Stras whould still start out in A ball. Hopefully the NAts take thrir time and bring him up right. Give him a couple seasons in the minors before introducing him to the grind of MLB.

I see the Nats doing something similar to Lincecum. He'll be on the fast pace to the bigs

With the amount he is earning, they almost have to have him up no later than next summer

I can see him possibly start off in minors IF he struggles in spring training

Yeah if he does well in spring training they make move him to the bigs or have him spend a month or two in the minors before.

I honestly dont know if its smart to take a guy who was drafted this year, and have him start next year in the rotation. It may have worked before on a few instances, but I think overall it hasnt been very succesful. Even if he has a spectacular spring, he should spend the first 5-6months of next season in the minors. No reason to hurry him, the arent competing next season.

Before we place Strasburg in the MLB out of Spring in Training, let's see what his stuff looks like against professional hitters.

Not to knock him at all, but he let's be honest...every day in professional ball he'll be facing better hitters than he did in almost every college game...especially in the Arizona Fall League, AA ball, etc.

I for one wouldn't be too pissed if Strasburg started his pro career later than sooner. Hype always outsells performance, so by all means, let it continue.

Better question - How long till Stras has Tommy John?

Give him 5 years and he will be the next Prior. I hope not, but that is the road he is going down if he is hurried along.
